CBNSat 9th hearing today 5th July 2006

It is just a day away from it being one month since CBNSat was forced to shutdown tranmissions. There seem to be a number of hearings today. Although we are unable to obtain any confirmation looks like the District Court Case on the CID Officers is also today. In addition we think that the LBN hearing is also today? If anyone can confirm these it will be very helpful.

At the moment none of us wants to predict the outcome of these hearings though because they have become highly unpredictable. In anyway it looks like with this Interpol issue, we Sri Lankans will become the joke of the year at the Interpol offices.

Can anyone confirm why the CID wants to involve the help of Interpol, since every bit of information on this technology can be obtained from the Internet.

In fact even in India DTH licenses were not issued citing security concerns but 5 years ago they did a technical analysis and found that there was no security threat in relation to DTH technology and now they have licensed about 4 DTH providers out of which two are in operation at the moment.

So since we Sri Lankans are very good at following the Indian Model we wonder why we cannot follow the Indian Model in relation to licensing of DTH too.

Anyway it looks like PanAmSat has been taken over by Intelsat please follow link below

Intelsat completes acquisition of PanAmSat

Wonder whether the above acquisition will have any effect on the Sri Lankan case that is going on now since the Satellite that CBNSat uses is operated by one of the above two companies.

Anyway lets hope that some relief comes about the customers of LBN and CBNSat. Anyway we appreciate the fact of some of you guys posting messages here, but this talk has to be accompanied by action also and we are not getting good responses for the starting of a meeting which may lead to a Consumer Lobby. The option is still open it upto all of you out there to decide whether you want to form a lobby. We would also like to request our fellow bloggers to keep us updated on the latest from the Court room today.

Just a little bit of information to all CBNSat customers. I am a CBNSat customer since last August and I have been utterly frustrated over the suspension of CBNSat. Earlier every time I want to speak to the Management after a court hearing they are always at a meeting. What I have realised is when I call them in the morning on the following day they are contactable and I was able to speak to them or leave a message and they will call you back (I have experienced it). They update me on the result of the hearing also by email. Usually the email comes after I get the result on this blog but anyway it is always good to get confirmation from them also. When I need to clarify something and if they are busy they call me back and I have been able to talk to their Customer Services Manager and just a few hours ago spoke to their Legal Manager. Please do not think that I am a Rep from CBN. I am just a customer. After the last hearing I was frustrated and then I sent them a letter and for that letter their Legal Manager gave me a call and spoke to me. I was assured that CBNSat will not close down and that they will resume services and they have the capacity financially to handle this situation. So for now I will wait and see what happens since the deadline for applications for Satellite and Cable TV is 21st July I think. They cannot issue the license for LBN and stop CBN since that is discrimination. Sri Lanka is in a transition period in broadcasting technology since we are used to this jurrasic technology and I am pretty confident that CBN will be back. Anyway maybe the CID wants to enlist Interpol to approach Scopus Digital Technologies and find out more on the technology since they are the suppliers of this technology to CBNSat.

What about CBNSat case at 1.00 pm??

Have they postponed it or is it taking place at 1.00??

I think there is some truth in the CBNSat LTTE channel story, I found out CBNSat have been showing NTT Channel to few of their subscribers.

Anonymous said...

Do u have proof that they did it?? Pls post it then..cause then we know the truth and why all this trouble is.

Anonymous said...

I'll let CID probe on the leads I have given. I am sure they can un-earth valuable info.

Anonymous said...

Hey you up there are you Hullaballa since CBNSat never allows it's customers to view NTT, Maybe a customer of CBNSat attached another decoder to the dish and watched NTT channel. Do not post lies on this blog. If you know then go to the CID and tell them and you can appear in courts today and give proof.

SEE THE ABOVE LINK YOU IDOTS. UNDESTAND WHO IS DOING WHAT IN THIS FUCKING COUNTRY. all the channels mentioned above will have to be banned if cid theory is true. Hey i dont see CBNsat in that?

Anonymous said...

Don't talk nonsense. How could they show NTT to few only. it's not possible. I'm sure this guy is Huluballa's catch try to let down CBN customers with false information.

Looks like CBNsat feed has been taken off from PAS12. Now what are the CID gonna do? According to their thory shuy should ban ITN, Dearana and all other channels for using same provider as NTT.

Hehe how can CBNsat show different channels to different customers? Believe me i visited lyngsat site before shutdown and it listed all channels CBNsat subscribed to. THERE WAS NO NTT. I double confirm that.

NTT Was a totally different feed in PAS12.

Lightning_Struck_Tower:
You will not find CBNSat on of the Satellite Listings anywhere as they don't uplink anything. They just pay and get channels from Europstar's regional provider, and of course slot in a few free channels like NTT. It can be done, just as CBN can give you the channels for what you have paid, example: 500 package does not include HBO, its blocked for these customers and open for others who pay for it, similarly, certain FTA channels which can bee seen throuhg CBN Decoder and Dish are open for few of their customers. Yes I am Hulugalla's man, just as some of you are Muhunthan's catchers.

Anonymous said...

Where did this guy crop up from, you cannot watch from the CBNsat decoder,But i hear when they switched decorders they could watch and clearly through the SATnet decorder which is open to FAC.

If you are so sure its not worth blogging here since it is a national security issue,The best person you could inform is Mr.Lakshman Hulugalle,The Director,Media Centre For National Security(MCNS),and Chairman SATnet,And inform about the SATnet decorder too,He might not be knowing.

Anonymous said...

Please check this

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/cbn.html

It is true that CBNSat is able to restrict some Channels to certain people. But we will be indicated that a channel is there that is not authorised for our viewing and the message will be similar to what we non HBO subscribers get when they click on the HBO Channel. For your info CBNSat is listed in the web site try the link above.

Anonymous said...

It seems that there is no seperate hearing on the CBNsat case and they will be a party to the SATnet & LBN case to be heard at 2.00PM.

The District court case will be taken up tommorow and needs to be seen what the outcome is.

With so many cases its realy complicated.

Dude when i visited that site one week back CBNsat was there. And the feed listed all the channels CBNsat subscribed to(ALL channels including HBO). There is no differentiation of packages at this level. And they do not pay panamsat for the channel subscriptions. CBNsat feed is uplinked to panamsat and the only thing they pay for is i believe transponder charge.(unleass the satellite will have to downlink 25000 feeds each dedicated to one customer) You get all the channels downlinked to your decoder and it's your smart card that scrambles the channels that are not in your package. I confirm CBNsat channel listing did not have any FTA channel nor NTT. I checked this before they went off air coz i was curious about how their system worked and how DTH worked. You are talking without facts, just like the CID. Or are you actually someone from CID?

Anonymous said...

CBNSat case is at 1:00 PM and after that they will be observers at the LBN and SATNet case too, since they requested to be present at this case.

I heard in the morning that the District Court case is in the morning today today, so is the postponement confirmed for the District court case.

It is almost time for the case anyway. Cross you fingers fellow and Hullaballa put your finger in your ass. Or let hullaballa's wife put her finger in u r ass.

lightning struck tower,

hey man watch it. if this guys connected to the top he'd have you traced in no time and get you busted.

thats what this country is comin for.

he sounds like he has lost his links upstairs. he's got to be from the top.

Anonymous said...

seems some joksinccropped up since of late. Why should any one pay and watch LTTE channel when u can get this free. Its stupid to think any one paying any service provider since the LTTE uplink is free to air.

CBNsat has restricted all free to air channels , it is evident by the customers they have .20,000 has not seen any LTTE channel on CBNsat. What is available from the market ( free to air decorders)can pick LTTE channel. so why spend 17,000 and pay monthely rentel to CBNsat when u can get this free from any decorder that is available from the market.

Seems CID does not know any basic idea about this technology or simply they dont want to bealieve reality.

Anonymous said...

I managed to unlock the decoder (hack). Now i can c free channels. i don't worry about the court case outcome anymore, at least I get to see something using the same setup provided by CBNSAT. I am working on unsrmabling the SIM card also so that CBN cannot trace me. I am working on a HOW TO MANUAL, will post it for you all to try the same.

Anonymous said...

All these cases are confusing and the District court case is tommorow(Confirmed),I am not sure whether there is a seperate case for CBNsat toady,Of what i know they are merely observers on the LBN and SATnet cases.

Anyone 100% sure please clarify

The internet is not the srilankan government, so down here i make the rules. Down here i am god.

Anonymous said...

can some one explain how LTTE channel can be a national security issue, when its free to air?

When all can pick this signal from free to air decorders?

Govenment should write to LTTE to stop this channel if they see a problem in this and not ask CBNsat to close operation !!!!!!! it does not make any sence ?

CBNsat is shut and LTTE is still up and running ??????and can be viewed from any decorder other than CBNsat!!!!!!!

What a joke of a country ...

Wish i was never born here... Also the credibility factor for CID ????? they cannot solve a simple technology concern ......what a country

Anonymous said...

Please post the Hack!! Atleast we can see some FTA channels till this get sorted out. Why can't CBNSat let their customer's view FTA channels till they start their service again.

Anonymous said...

Hey vanniya,

What are the free to air channels you can get? Any good channels? is it worth to buy FTA decorder or hack the cbn one i have.

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

""Why can't CBNSat let their customer's view FTA channels till they start their service again.""

That will be ibba diyata damma wage to the CID who are left without facts. Surely they will scream about NTT being shown.

Anonymous said...

Lightning_Struck_Tower
you are right. This is sri lanka no

Anonymous said...

Hey by anychance is FTV a free to air channel?

Anonymous said...

Atleast for now we own the equipment and we can decide what to do with it.so why CBNSat have to block FTA channels??

When they start service again they can block the FTA channels.

Anonymous said...

Fashion TV is a FTA Channel. So anyone with a Dish can view it. Probably the R&D (Research & Destroy) department in the Media Ministry are busy watching FTA. That is why they postpone the case all the time.

The judge is spineless.

Anonymous said...

How come it be shit..CBNSat is not broadcasting..so this proves that there is no connection between NTTE and CBN. So anyone who purchase a decoder + dish can view NTTE.

Also there are some good arguments here..may be the CBNSAT lawyers should study the Args and use it in Courts!! LOL

It’s been noted in the recent past that the LTTE TV channel NTT (National Television of Tamil Eelam) is operating Free to Air to our region. This is broadcasted using PAS 12 satellite located in 45° East. From this satellite NTT beams their programs 1 ½ hours daily form 7.30 p.m. ~ 9.00 p.m. Sri Lanka time. NTT broadcast uses 2 transponders on the PAS12 satellite to beam their programs to South Asia and Europe.

PAS12 has given LTTE up-linking facilities so that these video feeds could be up-linked from Sri Lanka. This transmission reaches UK, Europe and India where LTTE is also banned as a terrorist organization. And even in Sri Lanka it is a great threat to the national security because LTTE is transmitting video feeds to their cadres in Colombo and all over the island using these transponders. You don’t need a large dish to receive these channels and even with a portable 2 feet dish anyone can receive the signal easily.

PAS12 satellite is owned by PanAmSat which is an American company. And we all know that LTTE is also banned in USA as a terrorist organization. Therefore it is illegal for PanAmSat to provide this service to LTTE. So we suggest writing to relevant authorities especially to PanAmSat to stop providing communication services to one of the ruthless terrorist organizations in the world.

PanAmSat contact details are here at:

http://www.panamsat.com/customer_support/contact_list.asp

We shall urge them to stop this illegal transmission as soon as possible.

If there are any govt idiots reading this please check the following from Google FAQ

"
Are Google Earth images captured in real time?

No, they aren't. Our images are photographs taken by satellites and aircraft sometime in the last three years.

So the chances are if somebody can see president skinny dipping in the pool, rest assured it happend atleast 6 months back!

sorry if we who are patient see the bigger picture. this isn't just about cable TV, this is about whether a company can be hasseled out of existence because of politics and because he is tamil. some of us want to believe sri lanka is a beter country than that.

we are probably wrong, but let's see...

The Case has been postponed to 15th AUG(08) 2006 as the government is briging in regulations to the pay TV industry.

The ruling applies to CBNsat,LBN,SATnet

Intialy they have asked for 3(Three) months to bring in the regulations which has been brought upto 15th August.

Ultimately it would take the three months.

obviously comet is anologue and the person raving about comet doesnt know the difference between that and digital.

Just like a few years back when analogue was phased out in phones and digital era came through.

so pal rock for a year or so then turn to digital.as digital is the future and analogue is thing of the past.

I bet you have a digital cellphone, switch it on and properly go through its capabilities then you will know at least something about digital technology

ALCON,

Sitting and watching this situation unfold has been totally amazing to me. The major disgust with the CBNSAT situation is the allowance of people directly connected to the government influencing decision-making processes in reference to services provided by privately owned businesses. With a 200K client base, one would think that the govt would have been more expeditious in time management issues. It has now almost been 4 weeks since the shutdown of operations, and still to date, absolutely zero communication as to the disposition of the case. In my process of thinking, I feel that this is piss-poor community interaction on the shoulders of the the Minister of Media. I hope for a quick and speedy solution for the customers!!!!!

CBN services should have been stopped only after they regularize these types of operations and only if it violates.

What's wrong with this system? If they can do it to a such a big company, staff and a subscriber base, imagine as an individual what king of justice you can expect.

I hope CBN will have the strength to face this situation and fight back. I am not sure they will win against the state with the systems we have, but the people will be more educated about how corrupt the system is.

According to todays neth fm news they have said that charges will made against the owners of CBNSat according to TRC act.

And further amendments will be brought to the Rupavahini Corporation act as it does not contain neccesary regulations to cover satellite tv broadcasts.

THESE AMENDMENTS SHOULD COME THROUGH THE PARLIAMENT AND IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 3 MONTHS !!!!!!!!!

So nothing will happen till end of September for sure.

I totally agree with the government bringing in whatever regulation to this industry. But it's unfair from the customers point of view to discontinue a service we have enjoyed for years by not having regulations.

Can't the court order CBNSat to restart operations and not to issue any new connections till the new regulations pass. By this way the consumers rights will be protected.
