CBNSat Case : The Interpol Affair

Well looks like this case is full of surprises. Now Interpol will be called into investigate this case. What a great group of people. CBNSat customers have spent their hard earned money on puchasing CBNSat connections and this is how consumer interests are served in this country.

The Sunday Leader Investigative report clearly states that the Ministry of Defense has no knowledge about any links between the LTTE and CBNSat and also of any security concern from CBNSat. So how come the CID is raising this issue without the knowledge of the Ministry of Defense. The BOI has also told the Sunday Leader that for a project of the nature of CBNSat, BOI status will be granted only after the TRC, SLRC and all relevant licenses are obtained. So how come now the license issue came up. Did the BOI not know about the licenses that should be taken.

Looks like a clear cut case of squeezing CBNSat to death. The LTTE and CBNSat may be using the same satellite but CBN's Decoder is locked and cannot be used to receive the transmissions. The fact is that security threats are always there and if Sri Lanka is not open to implement new technologies then we will be left lagging behind the rest of the world. There should be ways of implementing security without stifling the use of technology.

It is high time a customer lobby group was formed, because you as customers have a right to a service that was paid for. Hence either email tvradiosrilanka@yahoo.com expressing your interest for a meeting or someone take the initiative and form the group. Our previous post asking you to submit your interest for a meeting did not receive many responses due to what we feel is the insecurity in the minds of people. But it is now high time to either express your interest in meeting up and allowing us to arrange for all of you or one of you to take the initiative and form a lobby group.

All concerned in this case have forgotten the consumers who are rightful citizens of this country.

This case clearly shows that some are above the law.

In a situation like this we as customers feel these 'forces' are of a bigger threat than LTTE. It not a case of insecurity.

If the law is not straight. whom can we trust?

Anonymous said...

Then CBNsat must be connected to AL QUIDA and that they used the frequency to talk with George Bush.

What a joke these officials are and no wonder many of these people are close to the big brother.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE SHIT MAN ! CID HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTTEN THE LICENCING ISSUE NOW. NOW THEY HAVE GONE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL STORY OF CBNSAT HAVING CONNECTIONS WITH LTTE. SOMEWAY OR OTHER THEY ARE GOING TO PROVE THAT. THEY KNOW THAT THIS IS A BASELESS ALLEGATION WHICH CAN BE DRAGGED FOR EVER.

THEY CANNOT DRAG THE LICENCING ISSUE LIKE THAT. THEY WILL HAVE TO ISSUE THE LICENCE IF CBNSAT COMPLIES WITH THE LAWS OF THE LAND.

BUT THIS LTTE ALLEGATION THEY CAN DRAG FOREVER TELLING FOOLISH STORIES TILL CBNSAT CLOSES DOWN OPERATIONS. I THINK THAT'S WHAT THESE GUYS ARE TRYING TO DO NOW !

SO UNFORTUNATELY FOR US ! THE CUSTOMERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE INFOTAINMENT.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW THIS NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE DOESN'T APPLY TO TV LANKA ??? THEY ARE ALSO DOING A SIMILAR BUSINESS.
IS IT BECAUSE HE IS A FRIEND OF THE BIG MAN ???

I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE FACTS IN SUNDAY LEADER IS TRUE BUT THIS TV LANKA GUY IS SUPPOSED TO PAY IN MILLIONS TO SLT WHICH HE ISN'T PAYING. HE COULD DO IT BECAUSE HE IS CLOSE WITH THE BIG MAN ???

AND THE WHOLE COUNTRY INCLUDING THE TRC AND SLT KNOWS THAT THIS MAN WAS DOING ILLEGAL CALL TERMINATION THROUGH HIS NETWORK EVEN BEFORE TRC ISSUED EGO LICENCES ???? HE CAN GET AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE HE IS CLOSE WITH THE BIG MAN ???

SO MY FINAL POINT IS THAT TO DO WHATEVER IN SRI LANKA (LEGAL OR ILLEGAL) WHO HAVE TO GET CLOSE TO A BIG POLITICO ! MAY BE THE BIG MAN. UNLESS YOU WILL END UP IN DEEP SHIT LIKE CBNSAT !

the only way of stopping the LTTE from transmitting their channel is to blow up their broadcast central into pieces. do these so called experts know what they talking about? a person with a dish and a receiver can tune into any FTA channel without a problem. why don't they seek interpol assistance or american assistance to stop PanAmSat from providing the services to the LTTE attributing a threat to national security. they are getting no where by shutting down CBNSat. Officials are using all their power rather than the one that matters most, i.e. brain. if they are using CBNSat to traffic their information, they could use GSM among other things. Then all mobile phone services have to be shut down including Mobitel!!! This is not about what they saying it is people. This definitely is power mongering and cronism at it's badest best

Anonymous said...

That right,They dont have to do all this with CBNsat and its a matter of using a GSM phone to send a SMS and what is all this about the LTTE channel,You can buy a dish and a receiver for Rs 4000/- and watch all these free to air channels, and simply yes why dont you blast off this LTTE transmitting station, then everything is sorted out.

Anonymous said...

let's say that CBNSat is gone; what are they going to do to the LTTE channel? how are they going to stop it? i suggest they do it first and come back to other businesses. what a crok of shit this country is!!! f@*# them all

guys, there are about 15 such service providers in a small city of dubai!!! and mind you some of the service providers are broadcasting TV Lanka!!! And sri lankans buy packages just to watch some sri lankan programmes. If CBNSat enters the middle east with channels like Rupavahini, Eye, Swar, and Dherana; just imagine what would happen. every single sri lankan there will rush in to buy CBNSat! This is the kind of thing these fools are after to stop!

I think as customers we should be with CBN at this juncture in time. I am Inconvinienced too by the current state of affairs but every one around me is warning me not to get involved organising any one against the authorities because every one fears the CID. and i too am human. I am sure they will come to my home and put forth false alligations that I am a supporter of terrorisum and that I am a threat to security. Thats the irony of affairs in this country. But I will write a lesson to the president. This country will never move forward and always will remain in the stone age. I must have done something real bad in my past life for me to be born in such a country as Sri Lanka. I am utterly frustrated with the current state of affairs in this cuntry. Polititions wants the support of the people only during elections and every one is alike. Even MAHINDA RAJAPAKSHA. I thought he was different but boy was I wrong..

Anonymous said...

it's really disturbing to know how dangerous sri lankans can be!! oh lord buddha, this is unbelievable. are we really a budhist country?

Anonymous said...

i want to leave this country as fast as i could. this place is for cutthroats and criminals, not for human beings. just look around and see who is rich in this country. can an honest person become rich? never!! never!!

we drew these misfortunes on to ourselves! api hemotama theiyangema pihitai

Anonymous said...

Yes ! Probably the TV LANKA guy wanted to secure his market share. With CBNSat initially our local channels were made available to the south asia. This satellite is in a very good location as it can broadcast to middle east, europe and africa.

I think TV LANKA guy was frightened because of this no one will pay to watch his channel. He got his influence with the BIG MAN to stop other competitiors !

Anonymous said...

I spent close to 16k on this connection. But I would not ask for a re fund as it would be a waste of time.

a. CBNSat cannot refund as a policy at this juncture

b. Its fricking 16k after all! I am not rich by any means but I aint going to die of starvation because of this.

c. This is the punshiment we have to bear for electing the most stupidest leader since "Yasalalaka Thissa".

d. Everytime I think about this , it motivates for me to leave this godforsaken country.

e. Even if CBNSat really supports LTTE, it might not be a bad thing. Whats the difference between current govt and them? LTTE uses bombs to kill Govt just starve ppl and make them die of frustration.

f. This gives me a chance to say "I told you so" for every idiot who voted for this govt

Anonymous said...

I picked this up from Wikipedia;

'DVB-S and DVB-C were ratified in 1994. DVB-T was ratified in early 1997. The first commercial DVB-T broadcasts were performed by the United Kingdom's Digital Terrestrial Group (DTG) in late 1998. In 2003 Berlin, Germany was the first area to completely stop broadcasting analog TV signals. Many European countries aim to be fully covered with digital television by 2010 and switch off PAL/SECAM services by then.'

Are we advancing with the world? It is happy to know that we were at par with other countries at least in this regard. Since sri lanka is a small country, it would have been possible to achieve this feat by 2010. gone down the drain!! i guess. do our ministers read these stuff during the ample free time they have?

Yasalalaka Thissa, would have been better, just watch who his brother is looking after,

Hulluballa- Forged the late Gamini Dissanayakes Signature,Timber fraud, channel nine issue

Now director of of MCNS and Deputy Chairman of Fisheries coporation.

Sandagiri - 400 million arms fraud,Deputy defence secretary(At least the supreme court was straight on this issue)

Abeywardena - Telecom issue running into millions(Default)-now chairman of Tea Board

and whats the secret when the CB governor is supposed to be involved in a Pyramid scham.

OK Boys and may be girls!

Here is a suggestion!
If you are afraid to organize because of security reasons, maybe we should each write to president about the plight of of the CBNsat customers. Come on guys what have we got to lose! Writing won't hurt any one, just give it a try. Don't sit there doing nothing or be negative to everything. And mind you not every 25,000 subscribers can leave Sri Lanka because of the frustration that we get.

Oh, don't forget to concentrate on on your side of the story. I guess you don't want to white wash CBNsat cos there's is court case pending against them.

Anonymous said...

write?!!! it will never even reach the gates of temple trees!

Anonymous said...

I do not think writing to the Officials who are already informed and had influenced this will be a worthwhile thing. But nothing to loose so anybody intrested can proceed..but i am not cos i hae had enough.

Can't you guys see this stupid thing..and its going to bring down CBN somehow..otherwise this would have been over by now.

So my only option is requesting CBN a refund. Sorry..but i don't have a choice and money to just loose.

If we can't change them then we should change accrodingly. Simple as that.

Anonymous said...

I too suggest that we write to HE the President, with copies to Ministries of Defence, Media, Consumer Affiars and Heads of CID, BOI, TRC and Rupavahini.

I'm gonna do mine.

Guys comet doesant have decorders to give connections and the only manufacturer in the world,an African nation has shut down their factory as the technology is not used anymore in the world.

Anonymous said...

I humbly ask whoever is trying to fead on our misery to not to do so. Comet are providing a great service sure (slightly expensive than CBNSat initially though). So did CBNSat. My main reasons for getting CBNSat were Discovery and Travel and living among other channels. CBN did provide a good service that is equal in standard. Hence people have the freedom of choice. These two bodies are competitors and they have to exist for us to obtain great services. Look what's happening to our energy industry today. Due to lack of competition, one organisation takes things for granted and loses billions of rupees of people's money. Please do not be cruel for you will pay for it someday. I have come across many a guys like you and believe me i've seen them all pay their debts.

Anonymous said...

yes absolutely right about the technology thing. the latest trend in cable tv is DVB. and others are becoming obsolete. it won't be long before even comet would resort to DVB satellite technology if they ought to survive (which is debatable). why i'm saying it's debatable is that look where they are now even after opering for more than a decade. have they expanded? a big 'no'. have they improved their technology? again a big 'no'. their coverage after a decade should tell you the story isn't it? will the officials shut them down too attributing national security? only time will tell. by 2010 it will be all digital. analogue is an obsolete technology already. the info age is like a giant tsunami; do you think petty polititians can win it with their child plays? we have to submit to the new technology one way or the other. these are just storming phases. and the settling phase is just around the corner. nobody can overcome the powers of global change. we have no option other looking ahead and advancing ourselves.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone see any positive sign tomorrow?? I think CBN will ever come into operation again.

I think CBN as a BOI approved Company should directly contact President and discuss with him this issue.(Only if they are not hiding anything!!) Out there is a Business community and they all should discuss and put pressure on the officials.

Why is this not happening??

Anonymous said...

People have paid up to receive pay tv and its understandable if they are worried about it.

The president must give directions like he gave TRC to formulate and stop the personnel under him making a mockery of technical advances and allegations which they cant prove. He said that and did this will not work but facts and figures will work.

here is a classic case of where a person is held to be guilty and he has to prove himself innocent rather than the other way around

Anonymous said...

the president will never do anything because he not in a position to do anything and never will be in a position. he may be a nice person. however, a nice guy fails more often that not when it comes to tough responsibilities. if you have any doubts, read 'Winning' by Jack Welch former CEO of General Electric. Every politician should read this book.

Anonymous said...

I believe that CBN may have some dark side. Maybe not a tie with LTTE, but something keeps them from fighting this issue.

We probably loose this service, for me CBN was on only service coverage in my area, therefore road is closed for me after CBN.

On the 17K, I don’t mind loosing because I enjoyed the service worth of that for 8 months.

I was alive before CBN, I was alive with CBN, and I will live without CBN.

Anonymous said...

I wish i could mke my mind with the Rs. 17K as i only enjoyed CBSat for just one day and next day it was off air. Just imagine the frustration for me. I could have mada my mind if i atleast enjoyed CBN for 2 or 3 months.

But just after purchase it was cut-off. I can't stand this any longer. And i need my Money back and i am planning to visit CBNsat office to negotiate a refund.

Anonymous said...

I dont think there is question of closure at all and CBN will be back and we being from the outstations expect it to be very soon

I dont think the politicians (90%) of them are educated enough to read the Jack Welch book and they wouldnt understand a word from it as most of them cant read, write proper eNGLISH(Names come to my mind)

Dont know whether these guys prompted the closure because you dont get sub titles in Sinhala as done in the local channels.

The channels that we watch on Cable TV are always looking for localisation and if they see a huge market demand in Sri Lanka channels like Discovery, Nat Geo, etc which have already got multiple language transmissions might introduce a sinhala sound feed too. It is a pity that since Cable has been around for some time. The operators have not been able to capture the market. The only operator doing so now is CBNSat. Just because the programme's are in english now it does not matter since if we show a huge market demand then the content providers themselves will introduce the local language feeds too.

CBN should reconsider of getting service from professional lawyers. The lawyers who’s talking behalf of CBN.. could not resolve this matter up to now.

Anonymous said...

CBN will be bankrupt..
Within another few months if the issue is getting drag. …… Customers should ask for the refund or else

Anonymous said...

As CBNsat customers we should take CBN to courts. Because there lawyers are dancing according to the gov tune

Anonymous said...

Thats why this should be taken to Appeal or Supreme courts as most of the good lawyers does not practice at the magistrates courts and on a higher court it looks like Romesh De Silva PC argubly the best in the country will represent CBN(On the asumption that he is already appearing for CBN on some other cases)

And for the guys who wants a refund, please talk directly to CBN and arrive at a decesion be cause its your right and just commenting on the blog want help you at all and none of the others are going to support or follow you.

Hay comet guy,

If your decoder manufacture close the factory u might buy decoders from other country’s coz they throw old technology and move on to new DTH technology. Or foolish comet guys still buying…………

Anonymous said...

Thats what realy happened, they gave a few connections with the ones returned by persons who converted to CBN and i dont think they could use the thrown out ones since what they use here is so outdated and customer made for comet.

Even at COMET they tried to use political influence through the Hettiarachchies to get control of the station from Scooby, which has failed so far and one of the Hettiarachchies is supposed to be a highraky in the media and close to the boss.

Anonymous said...

aren't they supposed to use someone called an 'expert witness' in courts?

I think the CBNsat lawyers at the magistrates court are not agressive enough and they better be agressive as everybody knows this is clear injustice.

Not only the interpol,Asian countries like India,Bangladesh and Pakistan would also be laufhing at us when a government is hindering the development of the country and going back to the stone age. There are political influences in these countries but never on this scale and this extent.

I WAS WAONDERING ABOUT THIS LTTE ISSUE !!!! THE GOVERNMENT SAYS THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO TRANSMIT. SO IS LTTE A BANNED ORGANISATION IN SRI LANKA.

TO THE DATE "NO" !!!!!

STILL LTTE IS NOT BANNED IN SRI LANKA !!!!!

AND THE FUNNIEST PART IS THE SRI LANKAN GOVERNMENT IS PROVIDING AIR TRANSPORT ALSO TO LTTE. TO COME FORM THEIR HIDEOUTS IN THE JUNGLES AND COME TO KATUNAYAKE!!!!

AND THE GOVERNMENT IS LETTING FOREIGN DIPLOMATS ALSO TO VISIT WANNI AT THE COST OF THE GOVERNMENT (ULTIMATELY IT'S US THE CITIZENS WILL BEAR THIS) NA DMEET LTTE LEADERS !!!!!!!!!

WE ALL HEARD THAT THE CHIEF NEGOTIATOR OF IRA WENT YESTERDAY TO TEACH LTTE HOW TO NEGOTIATE.

ISN'T ALL THIS A THREAT TO THE SO CALLED "NATIONAL SECURITY" ????

Anonymous said...

I think this shows the bankruptness of the govt. They are so hilaroius

Anonymous said...

If the government is really concerned about the LTTE channel I think what they should do is ask the satellite operator (PanAmSat) to not to give transponder space to LTTE.

As a PanAmSat is an american operator and we all know LTTE activities are banned in USA. So it's illegal for PanAmSat to provide communication services to LTTE !!!

Shall we also write to them ???

contact details is here at :

http://www.panamsat.com/
customer_support/contact_list.asp

Anonymous said...

Can the CID take pan am sat to courts?

Afterall they are transmitting a channel of an organisation which is banned by the USG

Anonymous said...

You are X-MEN must be a invicible guy,why dont you just walk straight to CBNsat office and talk to them.

Anonymous said...

I think the government here is just fooling around. And PanAmSat is also I think is not notified on this issue.

So we'll write to them ASAP asking to stop the LTTE's illegal channel.

And to all my friends who wants to get a refund and to sue CBNsat or whatever open a sepearate blog and gather there.

Please don't waste our time here. We are here to get our services restored. Not to ask for refunds at this juncture. Afterall CBNSat was doing a great service. We just want it back !

Anonymous said...

Well said and true,If you want a refund its not worth blogging here and no one of us is interested in whether you get a refund or not,Go and speak to someone at CBNsat office because you have right,Dont waste your time if you are so concerned about your refund.

We are as a group to get our service back and CBNsat was defeneitly providing us a service par excellance, untill the illegal closure by interested parties.
We know they will be back with more vigor and channels and i am prepared to wait like all genuine guys,Its a pity some are acting like Sri Lankan politicians, only concerned on self gains rther than fighting for your rights as a team.

Anonymous said...

this forum is for the aggrieved parties to get their services restored and in general people who fight for the truth and agree with most that people who want refund should address them to CBN management rather than waste their time spoiling the rythem of the forum.

anyhow CBN will be better off without these people who let the company down during difficult times

perserverance is the key to success and hope there will be light at the end of the tunnel for CBN.

Personally believe that aggression is needed to get to the end of the tunnel on part of the legal team.

CBN we are waiting ..

Your right

towards the blog on the top
if they file brankcrupcy we will not get our refund or whatever, and they have aproximately 25,000 customers which comes to a average of 425,000,0000

thats a lot of money i dont want the Cbnsat CEO to take all that money and just put his hands up and wait...or is it really a thing..where he buys equipmant for US$10,and earns in millions of rupees,

anyways as a loyal customer to cbn,if cbnsat was going to get shutdown and claim brankcrupt, there wont be cbnsat anymore, how can we loyal customers be loyal to cbnsat,if they dont exist?!

god you ppl whoever saying they will get there connections back, dream on,god i was listening to you guys(i dont know who u r,..dont know wether the agents even in cbnsat)but i say we form all of us as a group,if cbnsat services arent restored on a particular time(deadline) we must project on getting a refund, and if refused to go into courts, propably not get 17,000 as damage, but 25,000 as damage,

the courts will overrule over us,thinking they are a terrorist supporting organisation,

but what i hope for most is for cbn's services to be restored

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

guys please go and ask your refund but dont try to force other into taking refunds lol. There are some people who says they can wait. I bet they have their own reasons.

And those who say that refunds are the way, go ahead and ask for it instead of whining here. I know you have your own reasons and i respect your rights.

I belong to the waiting group though. I just cant buy CBNsat again if it comes online later. So i will wait till a verdict is given. And i know this is whole politico drama shit.

Damn LBO censored my comment. I had some heavy flaming towards CID in that but the edited post was some softcore shit.

The guys who posted above made some good point. Many people are wanting refunds now. Is money all we care about? For fucks sake they are not charging subscription for downtime. Just consider the extent of humanity in asking for a refund in this situation. Typical srilankans, when someone gets screwed, they go and try to screwe him some more.

Just imagine this shit happened to you. Imagine people coming to you asking for refunds without even waiting for the court verdict.

Some of those people who are in love with refunds made multiple posts in this board to show their theory has support. Lame!

btw CID will be INTERPOL's comic relief lol.

I paid for CBNSat on the 1st July 2005 and got the connection installed on July 11th 2005. Then there were only 10 channels from the promised 24. They havn't charged me till I get all the 24 channels in September !

And I enjoyed CBNSat for nearly 11 months till 6/6/6. So the monthly cost for the decorder is Rs.1500/=

If CBN goes bankrupt and they say they can't give a refund I know what to do with the dish and the receiver. In the receiver the FTA channels are blocked from the software. What we have to do is to remove CBNSat software and install fresh software so that we could use it as a FTA reciever by removing the card.

Anonymous said...

I told you guys before too that it is very unlikely that the government gives approval for CBN to restart operations. At least it will get delayed till 21st July. It will not definitely come before that.

Even after 21st it is ver unlikely that CBNSat will be back. Because the government is going to handover the DTH operation in Sri Lanka to one of their henchman. Maybe Mr. SHITNet may be Mr. TVShit.

A way to fuck SATnet

SAtnet is still selling connections and it seems they are above the law. But i think there is one way to fuck SAtnet. As we all know, They are only a dealer here. The feed comes from india (i'm talking about DishTV feed). They charge rs 1200 per month from sri lankan customers.

BUt i was browsing dishtvindia web site and was amazed to find that even their higest package charges indian rs 300 monthly only. That would be max rs 750 in sl rupees. And this package contains the new sony channels inluding ten sports and AXN + HBO.

http://www.dishtvindia.in/static/packDishmaxi.asp
----see channel list

My idea is this. If you register for web access in dishtvindia.com using your PIN and STB no (thats all they ask for), you can pay directly to Dishtv online using credit card
and even change your package. What if all SAtnet subscribers registered in that site and paid using credit card? NO CASH FLOW FOR SATNET! AND YOU GET ALMOST ALL GOOD CHANNELS
FOR LESS THAN RS 1000.

Exsisting Satnet customers reading this blog please verify weather this works.

This doesnt mean i switch to SATnet. Just trying to fuck the big gun behind all this shit.

Anonymous said...

Can't we get a DishTV connection via Web..incase CBNSat closes down??

Then we need not approach Shitnet

Anonymous said...

CBNsat will not close down and Government cannot do that,When you go to a higher court you cant drag a case of this nature for long, without any substance.

I also browsed through this dish india web and had the same concern and i sent a inquiry asking whether we could purchase directly from there bypassing the local vendor as i dont have any trust in SATnet.

They havent replied as yet.

Dear me it seems that quite a few people have treaded on quite a few others' toes on this blog. There are obvious segregations

1) CBN customers who loved thier service and want it back
2) CBN customers who loved their service but don't see it coming back and since they're honest blokes who worked hard for the 17K they invested want it back
3) Non CBN Customers who seem to be taunting the CBN customers
4) CBN Plants

Blogs are meant to be for people to exprexx their opinions. So it's quite silly for some posts to ask other people to stop blogging. Having said that their is a thing called a TOPIC for each issue in discussion. There are so many absurd comments that it is hard to wade through all of themm to find one that makes sense.

If someone wants a refund then they have every right to ask for it and also to post their feelings about it. After all this is the heading of the forum

"This blog is intended for CBNSat customers to tell the world about how efficient their service is, or any problems in their service or just plain congratulate them for a job well done"

So people asking people who want a refund to bugger off aren't exactly on track.

Also I think posts like the following one

"Anonymous said...
I'm prepared to forego my 17K for a just cause and let this money be my contribution for CBN's fight for justice.

Wednesday, July 05, 2006 8:53:04 AM "

...... are so obviously CBN plants that it is actually funny. Sure there are loads of CBN loyal customers who want their service back somehow or the other but I don't think anyone is willing to sacrficie their investment if it becomes evident that CBN cannot resume transmission.

Also it's absurd to want to get together as a group to demand refunds. Why on earth would one subscriber care about someone else's refund. Go get yours on your own.

This blog is a strong opportunity to make heard, the voices of true CBN customers who have been wronged. All this governmental hate (even though it's probably justified) and comet cable advertising and gung ho CBNsat staff comments are seriously making a mockery of something serious.

Anonymous said...

Yes. Its going to be postponed to next week!!! LOL

yeah mate. i think you are right. a pattern is emerging here. the case gets postponed to a monday, wednesday, and then to monday again. this is what probably is going to be the case today as well.

however, still i think we could hold the fifa world cup as a milestone

It was amazing to see ITN news last night. According to them, Media Ministry Lawyer has mentioned that both CBN and LTTE are using same Sattelite (PAS12), Therefore this should be further investigated. Are both MM lawyer and ITN technology shy ? during todays hearing CBN lawyers could argue why they should use PAS12. Accordingly to my knowledge there are 2 simple reasons :
1) PAS12 is one of the satellites covering Sri lanka foot print
2) Capacity availabity of PAS12. Seems other SAT's covering Sri Lanka foot print packed to capacity. Therefore it is obvious choice for CBN to go for PAS12

See below link for PAS12 coverage:
http://www.intelsat.com/apps/coverage-maps/sat_foot.htm?name=PAS-12&loc=45&band=ku-band&beam=2&dir=E

I agree everyone has the right to blog, but when you want a refund its not worth waiting and blogging, you have to get it done by going there.

That right,They dont have to do all this with CBNsat and its a matter of using a GSM phone to send a SMS and what is all this about the LTTE channel,You can buy a dish and a receiver for Rs 4000/- and watch all these free to air channels, and simply yes why dont you blast off this LTTE transmitting station, then everything is sorted out.

let's say that CBNSat is gone; what are they going to do to the LTTE channel? how are they going to stop it? i suggest they do it first and come back to other businesses. what a crok of shit this country is!!! f@*# them all

guys, there are about 15 such service providers in a small city of dubai!!! and mind you some of the service providers are broadcasting TV Lanka!!!

I think TV LANKA guy was frightened because of this no one will pay to watch his channel. He got his influence with the BIG MAN to stop other competitiors !

I picked this up from Wikipedia;

If you are afraid to organize because of security reasons, maybe we should each write to president about the plight of of the CBNsat customers. Come on guys what have we got to lose! Writing won't hurt any one, just give it a try. Don't sit there doing nothing or be negative to everything. And mind you not every 25,000 subscribers can leave Sri Lanka because of the frustration that we get.

Oh, don't forget to concentrate on on your side of the story. I guess you don't want to white wash CBNsat cos there's is court case pending against them.

So my only option is requesting CBN a refund. Sorry..but i don't have a choice and money to just loose.

Tuesday, July 04, 2006 1:05:50 PM

yes absolutely right about the technology thing. the latest trend in cable tv is DVB. and others are becoming obsolete. it won't be long before even comet would resort to DVB satellite technology if they ought to survive (which is debatable). why i'm saying it's debatable is that look where they are now even after opering for more than a decade. have they expanded? a big 'no'. have they improved their technology? again a big 'no'. their coverage after a decade should tell you the story isn't it? will the officials shut them down too attributing national security? only time will tell. by 2010 it will be all digital. analogue is an obsolete technology already. the info age is like a giant tsunami; do you think petty polititians can win it with their child plays? we have to submit to the new technology one way or the other. these are just storming phases. and the settling phase is just around the corner. nobody can overcome the powers of global change. we have no option other looking ahead and advancing ourselves.

I think CBN as a BOI approved Company should directly contact President and discuss with him this issue.(Only if they are not hiding anything!!) Out there is a Business community and they all should discuss and put pressure on the officials.

Why is this not happening??

People have paid up to receive pay tv and its understandable if they are worried about it.

The president must give directions like he gave TRC to formulate and stop the personnel under him making a mockery of technical advances and allegations which they cant prove. He said that and did this will not work but facts and figures will work.

here is a classic case of where a person is held to be guilty and he has to prove himself innocent rather than the other way around

the president will never do anything because he not in a position to do anything and never will be in a position. he may be a nice person. however, a nice guy fails more often that not when it comes to tough responsibilities. if you have any doubts, read 'Winning' by Jack Welch former CEO of General Electric.

Your right

if they file brankcrupcy we will not get our refund or whatever, and they have aproximately 25,000 customers which comes to a average of 425,000,0000

thats a lot of money i dont want the Cbnsat CEO to take all that money and just put his hands up and wait...or is it really a thing..where he buys equipmant for US$10,and earns in millions of rupees,

anyways as a loyal customer to cbn,if cbnsat was going to get shutdown and claim brankcrupt, there wont be cbnsat anymore, how can we loyal customers be loyal to cbnsat,if they dont exist?!

god you ppl whoever saying they will get there connections back, dream on,god i was listening to you guys(i dont know who u r,..dont know wether the agents even in cbnsat)but i say we form all of us as a group,if cbnsat services arent restored on a particular time(deadline) we must project on getting a refund, and if refused to go into courts, propably not get 17,000 as damage, but 25,000 as damage,

the courts will overrule over us,thinking they are a terrorist supporting organisation,

but what i hope for most is for cbn's services to be restored

All these guys who are concerned about the refund just talk to CBN without cryinh here and no one of our guys are going to ask for a refund just because some spineless arshole is saying.

Just open a seperate blog for that purpose

Can't we get a DishTV connection via Web..incase CBNSat closes down??

Then we need not approach Shitnet

CBNsat will not close down and Government cannot do that,When you go to a higher court you cant drag a case of this nature for long, without any substance.

I also browsed through this dish india web and had the same concern and i sent a inquiry asking whether we could purchase directly from there bypassing the local vendor as i dont have any trust in SATnet.

They havent replied as yet.

Rs. 425,000,0000? My god, you're saying that CBNsat hasn't paid it's bills, employees wages, advertising and licensing fees in a year and a bit? They've just been saving it up for a rainy day? The bastards.

Seriously, it's starting to get a little difficult to have a proper conversation here with these idiots hanging around.

This blog is to post feelings of CBNSat customers. It could be good or Bad and nobody can ask not to post.

But all the others (Commet and other shit) pls don't post as this is for CBNSat.

No guys the CBNsat hearing is at 1.00PM as the SHITnet and LBN hearing is at 2.00PM,Further the 50 Million damage suit against the CID is to be taken up at the high courts in the morning(This is the one i suppose, Daily News sometime back reported that "Sonicnet case Dismissed)

I agree everyone has the right to blog, but when you want a refund its not worth waiting and blogging, you have to get it done by going there.

both america and al quaida might be using the same satellite. does this mean that they have a secret agreement between them? the LTTE might be using dialog, mobitel, celtel and even telecom CDMA. does this mean all these organisations have a secret agreement? today satellite images of every nook and corner can be extracted off the internet with a credit card. there are even free stuff like google earth. anybody who hasn't tried this. download google earth for free at google. i could see even my small house. where is national security? this argument on national security is all pure bollocks.

im not against cbnsat or compromising towards it

all im saying is,why do u want to support a organisation as cbnsat after its closed down, just think after they claim brancrupcy this blog will be closed down, and then yall can all play with your cbn dishes, haha,

well if i dont get a refund i might as well play with my cbn dish as a frisbee

what you guys dont get is,YOU GUYS maybe LOYAL to CBN,so am i,first i was very angry towards CID's AND TRC's movement, now im saying is if we never or dont get our services back, why cant we as customers ask for a refunds,im saying as a group!Because its much better than ONE,im not jabbering here, but all im saying is if cbn doesnt come on AIR on a particular deadline, lets go as a group as customers and ask for a refund,im not concerned about other peoples money but at this point it does concern me,because they have pledged there hard earned money and support, for the people who have been posting who dont need refunds, how can you say so,if your supporting cbn, after they dont exist?(after claiming branckrupcy)

thats what you dont get, maybe you dont care, cuz you have enough money to spare,

let other peoples voice be heard and opininions, without putting them down, cuz they are allso cbn customers, and WHO HASNT GOT THERE SERVICE YET,AND STILL TRYING TO GET THERE SERVICE BACK

Just a little bit of information to all CBNSat customers. I am a CBNSat customer since last August and I have been utterly frustrated over the suspension of CBNSat. Earlier every time I want to speak to the Management after a court hearing they are always at a meeting. What I have realised is when I call them in the morning on the following day they are contactable and I was able to speak to them or leave a message and they will call you back (I have experienced it). They update me on the result of the hearing also by email. Usually the email comes after I get the result on this blog but anyway it is always good to get confirmation from them also. When I need to clarify something and if they are busy they call me back and I have been able to talk to their Customer Services Manager and just a few hours ago spoke to their Legal Manager. Please do not think that I am a Rep from CBN. I am just a customer. After the last hearing I was frustrated and then I sent them a letter and for that letter their Legal Manager gave me a call and spoke to me. I was assured that CBNSat will not close down and that they will resume services and they have the capacity financially to handle this situation. So for now I will wait and see what happens since the deadline for applications for Satellite and Cable TV is 21st July I think. They cannot issue the license for LBN and stop CBN since that is discrimination. Sri Lanka is in a transition period in broadcasting technology since we are used to this jurrasic technology and I am pretty confident that CBN will be back. Anyway maybe the CID wants to enlist Interpol to approach Scopus Digital Technologies and find out more on the technology since they are the suppliers of this technology to CBNSat.

“not against cbnsat or compromising towards it”

YES! As CBNsat customers No one is against CBN, (we pay for the service)
But if they close down due to this matter.. then after that can we... as customers ask for a REFOUND.

End of the day these privet company’s all want to make money… which is the real fact and as customers we are paying for the service. The CBNsat REP’s should understand any customer has the RIGHT of asking the refund since you have failed to give the service up to NOW.

to X-men,

I am a genuine CBN customer and feel that unity will get the CBN services restored.

while there is a truth to the fact of bankruptcy, I believe that one should not trod on a fallen person to gain financial advantage at this juncture.

besides when have you got anything done fast in a goverment institution other than the passport office which again you have to cough up extra bucks to get it done.

so perserverance my friend and do not be a shylock.
