Postponed once again..........

Well at least we are not surprised. According to unofficial reports the CBNsat supreme court case has been postponed to November 6th 2006.

According to these reports the reason for postponement is that the MoD wants to carry out further evaluation. It makes us wonder how we can trust the reports given by the MoD regarding the present war when they cannot be honest with a simple thing such as CBNsat. We wonder whether all the reports that we get from the front lines are all real. Are their conclusions on all the abductions and killings real? Are the casualty figures real?

We are beginning to have doubts on all the reports released by the government since they seem to be a very corrupted set of people, who are bent on protecting themselves and their henchmen. So maybe all what we hear about the war is nothing but a bunch of lies.

Coming back to CBNsat we are getting unconfirmed reports that they have requested court to uplink via SLRC. SLRC's involvement in this case is questionable and whether they will agree to allow CBNsat to uplink is also not certain. However it should be mentioned here that for money anyone can do anything so since they will be paying SLRC money for uplinking who knows they might just do it.

We would like to remind that the information received so far about the date of postponement and the request by CBNsat regarding SLRC is still unconfirmed. Please update us with the confirmed reports as the day progresses.

Yes its postponed to the 6TH November after deliberation as CJ wanted 2 months.

Correction,The MOD issue didnt come up today and it was the media ministry who wanted two months to evaluate(Signature & Name differance,Channel partners etc).

The SLRC issue has to be discussed and and then come to a conclusion as the CJ gave only a sugestion and not an order.Further it was revealed that Sri Lanka Telecom has been issued with a licence for cable & sattelite TV and it seems to be the first of its kind with the new regulations.

Licence for SLT? interesting.. Abewardena hates SLT..

november 6th will be the 5th month since closure of CBNsat.

that day MOD issue will come up and what else nobody knows except the conspirators and there will be another postponement and probably will make it one of the longest cases that has been pending in the SC for years to come.

it is a never ending cycle of deceits and lies to keep CBNsat off the air.

My prognosis is that a government institution will take over and run the operation.

maybe sri lanka telecom has been given the license just for that.this is not the first time a scenario like that happened remember ITN television case where a private TV station was taken over by govt.in the 70`s which is ITN today.

my opinion is to atleast get SLT's support and start operations rather than incurring costs and keeping operations a standstill.

What is CBNsat Management has to say today’s court hearing..

Alf said...

May be SLT is eying at SLRC Rupavahini World channel.

LOL....What did they say in there letter to the blog....hehe they did not want to tell us their strategy cause the other side will find out...hehe...CBN has done it again....kept silent.. their all important strategy...Well I am gona give away my strategy....I am asking for a refund if nothing is done by CBN by the 7th of NOV....I am tired of them doing nothing....What the fuck have they done up to now except go to court say yes sir no sir three bags full sir and come back…..Ohh yes they did have 1 or 2 press conferences 2 letters sent to the customers…that’s twhat they keep telling us when we ask what they have done in the past months, like an old broken down record.…..what else……..HUH….The forum has done more…..

matrix said...

I have requested for a refund already (just to pressure the management)
But what they told me was that as a policy they do not give any refunds… so we have to wait

yakuza said...

guys time to remove the batteries from the cbn remote control. looks like its going to be a long wait..

rajarata said...

We should file a class action suit to get the refund from CBN. It looks like CBN is not going to come back.

lil_birdy said...

i cant believe this. Howcome they need two months to verify names and stuff to issue licences? What did the fo all this time?
this is all a bull crap to kill time and cbnsat.
its sad this country is like this. Whats mahinda doing? travelling the world with our monies....not at all bothered about our basic rights even! Shit country!shit president!

lil_birdy said...

what are you talking about refund? i think cbn sat is already going through hell.... if we are loyal customers and if they gave us actual quality entertainment then we should satnd by them no matter what.
it is really ungrateful to think of refunds at this moment of time. i think u should ask for refund from telecom regulatory/mod and the govt of sl!

rajarata said...

I am not rich like you to just let the money go. If SLT starts a DTH i will buy their dish and their service. For that I need this refund. After all telecom is a more reliable and credible organisation. I would rather go with SLT than CBN.

Are you sure that SLT was given licenses for Cable and satellite TV transmission??. If so the most appropriate decision that CBN should take is uplink the content with the help of SLT. I believe this move can satisfy MoD, Courts and the Subscribers of CBN Sat

lil_birdy said...

rajarata, i agree with you on one thing. MAy be its true, you are not rich. But i dont agree on the fact that SLT is a much more reliable source. Then why couldnt they offer the so called service all these years? And also try going to one of the SLT offices to pay a bill...or disconnect a line...you will know the truth. I got my dad's line disconnected coz he migrated abroad. When i needed a connection back they claimed i hadnt paid the dues and wanted me to pay it. But we settled everything in full before disconnection! someway of earning extra monies i guess!

I belive we should Support CBN but not at any cost. you are correct. If they can uplink with SLT and start the services without delay.
lil birdy. If you paid the bill of your dad so it to SLT I belive they will not ask for money of what you have paid. Please note as you are a customer of SLT you should take that matter to SLT higher authorities.

CBNSAT is not going to bother when it comes to refunding, they maybe a dth service, and no matter whatever the situation they are, they are a profitable high profit gaining organisation which topples more than 200Million a month, and they will have to refund us, and no one has the rights to ask who to and who not to ask for refunds, its the basic right when a agreement is signed.. unless destroyed due to any natural, terrorist disaster

Unless cbnsat comes to a resolution to provide the service from a close region-india,maldives... all r categorized as close regions in possiblities to transmit from those particular locations.

sat_bird said...

If I were to choose between CBNSat & SLT, I would definetely go for SLT... No offence, CBNSat.. B'cos they will be able to provide rather reliable service (hopefully) @ an affordable price.

1. Expensive equpment & installation; When you subscribe to CBNSat, you have to pay RS.14,695/= + VAT (you can buy 2 FTA receivers for that price).

2. Expensive packages; CBNSat's Basic package is Rs. 575/= whereas in the UK 'FreesatfromSKY' provide over 120 channels for a very cheap one off payment. Compare prices with Indian providers like STAR, ZEE, TataSKY and DishTV.

3. Few local channels; The difference is they don't provide Sri Lankan channels.(Only 4 channels on CBNSat) If SLT starts satellite tv, it's more likely to get other local channels as well. It'll be better for tv stations to link with a DTH provider as it brings better quality.

Anyway, I feel very sorry for CBNSat about the ongoing problems. In the meantime, they owe hell of a lot money for their customers. Hope they will manage to overcome this matter.. otherwise we will have to take some action to recover the money we paid..

I think the refunds are out guys(Though youll have differant of opnians),Its supposed to be on the agreement.I verified from a leading UNP politician and lawyer about this when i met him at a function (He was with owner of LBN),and he said that the agreement signed by us includes a clause which says something as the closure or shutdown due to government regulations or order will not qualify for a refund.

Please go through the agreement and clarify as I have misplaced my one.

THE ONLY OPTION SEEMS TO BE SOMEONE LIKE SLT TAKING OVER THE WHOLE OPERATION (YES IT WAS ALSO MENTIONED BY THE TRC LAWYERS THAT SLT IS THE FIRST TO BE ISSUED WITH THE NEW LICENCE)

Rene said...

Well, I think if CBN really wants to start their services quickly, they got to realise in what country they r in.. Com on this is SL...courts r a just a formality..if u want anything to be done...go catch a politician...bribe them if u have to...this is prety simple in SL....otherwise the court cases will go for another 5 years!!... CBN..if u want to start quickly..try and catch these officers and a polititian..give them a dinnar and few drinks...+ some money or a tour....u will be up and running again in no time......beleive me this really works....

hush said...

I guess uplinking through SLT or Rupavahini who has got the license is the best option. This will pave the way clear in respect of MOD and will leave nothing for Media guys to come up with either.prefer SLT though as media guys cant put their 2 cents in that easily unlike rupavahini.

the best place to see as to names and signatures is with the company register in respect of CBN.I guess media secretary must have not been aware of such a institution.

anyhow uplink through SLT is the best option till matters are fully resolved, then CBN can revert back if everything is clear.

Alf said...

As per the agreement we have signed, we cannot obtain a refund.

Since CBNSat has not been proven guilty by Governement for the said wrong doings, may be we can do something against that.

Also if the Government is saying that CBNSat has not complied with the regulations then CBNSat has to face the consequences. THEY HAVE LIED TO THE CUSTOMERS AND HAS SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITHOUT OBLIGING TO GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS.

Why can't these foolish lawyers of CBNSat request to start operations for existing customers till they have been proven guilty??

What they are trying now is to comply with all the bloody regulations newly developed by the Government.

I think it's time for the Customer unite to take some action. Lets get some more subscribers joined in and collect some funds and file a FR case. Lets put a paper ad and request all the CBNSat customers to rally together.

I think we should not fight for CBNSAt but for our rights as Customers. If CBNSat have fooled us they should be penalised and if the Regulatory bodies have fooled us they should be exposed.

Yesterday 8pm Rupavahini news said some bullshit regarding CBNSat. it was something like CJ said if it was related to national security, he had some concerns and secretary of media ministry's a respectable person and they had to follow the normal procedure when giving licences

cbnsatcustomer said...

Considering national security is vital for green light to Satellite TV stations

The Supreme Court is of the view that drawing government’s attention to national security in granting permission for the maintenance of a satellite TV service is reasonable.

Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva made this reference, when a petition filed by CBNsat was taken up for hearing. The Counsel appearing on behalf of CBNsat said information given by the Secretary to the Media Ministry in relation to the issue of a permit, cannot be accepted. In response, the Chief Justice said it is unreasonable to make allegations against the Secretary, who is an experienced public officer. The Chief Justice pointed out that reasonable time should be given to consider the issue of a permit to the related company, according to the normal procedure.

Prabath what we meant was that if they cannot be honest about this CBNsat matter, how can they be honest about the war, we did not want to support anyone. It is suspicious to note whether all these things we hear from the MoD are true or not. If they cannot be honest about a simple matter such as cable tv and are being dishonest due to the influence of these henchmen of politicians, how can they be trusted when it comes to the war. They maybe acting according to the henchmen in reporting the war too or may be fighting the war according to the whims and fancies of the henchmen.

Hopefully this is not happening with regards to the war but nothing is impossible since these people are extemely corrupt.

The MOD offcials may be corrupt. But our army heroes are not. The many victories of eelam war 4 were acheived by the unparallaed leadership of army commander Gen Sarath Fonseka. The heroic army soldiers who give their life to protect the country are discredited by cowards at the MOD who bully fellow countrymen in order to run their personal agendas (Ex -Lakshman Hulugalle). HE please remove the arseholes from MOD and let the brave soldiers continue their victorious path towards eradication of LTTE.
