To all CBNSat / LBN Customers - Meeting

Dear All

We will try our best to set up a meeting for all CBNSat and LBN Customers after waiting for the outcome of the CBNSat hearing tomorrow. Please email us the convienient times and days. I suggest we do this meeting after you guys have finished work on a weekday. If there is any lawyer who is a customer of CBNSat/LBN or who likes to help us please email and come for the meeting and advice us.

We need you guys to be genuine. Please no jokes and do not fail to come after promising that you will come. Over a hundred people will be good.

We the admins will not be present for this meeting due to security concerns but we will try to arrange a public place for you guys to meet and discuss the matter. We are confident that you guys will be able to come up with a solution. We need you to email us with your real name and contact details and the alias that you used to post in this blog. We will keep your details confidential. However we are concerned how many of you people out their will come due to fear of revealing yourselves. If you are in agreement to the above please email us on tvradiosrilanka@yahoo.com

YES I THINK WE SHOULD GATHER AT LEAST 100 CUSTOMERS TO COURTS TOMORROW. EVEN LAST TIME FEW CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN THERE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE AN IMPACT.

BY THE WAY THE THINGS WENT ON FOR THE LAST 3 WEEKS THERE IS A HUGE POSSIBILITY FOR THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO FABRICATE A STORY TOMORROW AND FURTHER DELAY THE PROCESS.

MAY BE THEY WILL TRY TO DELAY THIS TILL 21ST JULY LETTING OTHERS ALSO TO APPLY AND ANOTHER FEW WEEKS TO ISSUE THE LICENCES.

THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS TO BRING OUT THE SECURITY CONCERNS AND ASK FOR MORE TIME TO CONSIDER ISSUING THE LICENCE TO CBNSAT.

DEAR FRIENDS,

WE HAVE WAITED MORE THAN ENOUGH !

THREE WEEKS IS FAR TOO LONG TO SOLVE THIS SMALL ISSUE !

IT'S A RISK TO MEET HERE AND THERE. BECAUSE TROUBLE MAKERS ALSO CAN POST MESSAGES HERE ANONYMOUSLY AND ASK PEOPLE TO COME TO VARIOUS PLACES.

SO I SUGGEST NOT TO DISCLOSE ANY PERSONAL DETAILS TO ANYONE THROUGH THIS BLOG BUT LET'S MEET AT THE COURT TOMORROW AT THE TIME OF HEARING.

I FEEL THAT IS THE SAFEST PLACE FOR US TO MEET. IF WE CAN GET AT LEAST 100 CUSTOMERS TO THE COURTS THATS ENOUGH !

SO I URGE YOU ALL THE SUBSCRIBERS OF CBNSAT ! EVEN THE OUTSTATION GUYS YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET TO COLOMBO AND LET'S ALL MEET AT THE COURTS TOMORROW !

I ALREADY INFORMED MY FRIENDS IN COLOMBO AND ALSO IN RATNAPURA, KANDY AND GALLE ! THEY ALL PLEDGED THAT THEY'LL DEFENITELY COME TOMORROW TO THE COURTS !

GOOD LUCK !

I just happened to contact a man who is very close to the government on the telecom side. He said it's very unlikely for them to issue a licence to CBNSat as it is owned by a tiger sympathiser.

And he further advised me to ask for a refund from CBNSat.

I said I don't want a refund I just want the service to be restored. And I asked why you were silent for more than year to say that he is linked with tigers.

Wasn't it investigated at the time of issuing BOI & TRC approvals or the defence ministry approval to commision a satellite earth station ???

He was speechless but insisted that the licence should not be given to CBNSat !

Next time if anyone gives you a comment on CBNsat, just ask them what the charges against them are. If they give you some crap, explain to them that the charges are not related to terrorism and the closure is done not under the emergency regulations.

Even if someone charges supporting terrorism they still have to prove them in a court.

Anonymous said...

Tell this man that he is talking bullshit and what hulugalle is propagating.

CBNsat has the TRC clearance and the media licence, i hear is almost through(mind you CBNsat is on the opnian that they do not need this)

The people who are jelous of other people having this connection just keep on saying this as typical Sri Lankans are famous for.

Anonymous said...

The owners of CBN and they are far from being Tiger sympathisers - this is your fucking chinthanaya - all tamils are now tigers.

I hope they don't come back online so the modayas lose their upfront fees.

Anonymous said...

Someone has said in some places of this blog that a freind of him has said that government is very unlikely to issue licence to CBNsat
because they think it is tiger linked.(He says the friend is a relevent government official)
Well, in the court case going on has nothing stated like that.So the court cannot stop transmission because of that. And also court has ceased two other stations so court may not give permission to retransmition only to those two without letting CBN too.So you dont have to wory about that at the moment.
But I like to notify to all fellow bloggers that this tiger link thing of CBNsat has gone deep in to nerves of many srilankans. Many people i know belive in this and they wish for cbnsat to be gone for good.Actually speaking we subscibers are also subjected for verbal harresment(belive me i had gone through this). So i like to notify you that even if cbn recovers from this crisis there will be another blow comming for cbn and that will be criticla for cbn ( anyone like to see the cbn hatred bo to the relvent blog on lanka business online)
Fellow bloggers we must warn cbn sat about this and we must help them the best we can.

SHUTTING DOWN CBN:

1st Approach was to show that they are linked to the LTTE.

Result = FAILED

2nd Approach was to show that they do not have a required license apparently none of the operators did.

Result= Backfired and affected their own. Seems like Failing.

3rd approach is to go back to the 1st approach.

As far as we are concerned, no more quality programs to be watched.

Anonymous said...

CID is doing a GREAT job for the security of the country and achieved the following so far.

CBN operations shut.
LBN operations shut.
SATnet office has to be shut.

LTTE channel still up and running bcase officers are too busy with above.

Are they really after the security of the country? unfotunatly these are the people we will have to rely on.

Anonymous said...

TOP FAN-You are right as i had the same experiance and that is the mindset created by this interested parties,I can remember when CBNsat was launched(There was no transmission intialy),i called the then Startv lanka and inquired about there product(Which you had to pay quaterly) and i told the new network (CBNsat) charges only monthly,i can remember the exact words she murmerd after that (The main actors wife),THEY HAVENT GIVEN ANY CHANNELS NO...,AND DONT KNOW WHETHER THEY WILL GIVE ANYTHING.

I opted for CBNsat and even in this crisis i am happy i opted for same. And i remember these words even today because of this name cropping up in every blog, and they would have this sinister plan from the beginning and little by liittle they have activated same.

This government guys story is a big lie and this has to be decided in courts and this was never a issue at the proceedings, after all non of the operators could be granted licence if CBN is denied,Thats law.

Anonymous said...

Dont beleive on some of the stories posted by interested parties,It will be decided in a open court tommorow.

Anonymous said...

The LTTE link is an Old story and an unproven one.

Everybody should pay attention to the timing of "A government man saying something to a genuine CBNSat customer". This comes at a time where CBNSat customers are readying themselves as a force to circumvent what is happening in the country against a legitimate business and there own hard earned money. This is a word/mind game to demoralize CBNSat customers to not to proceed with there endeavor. Even better, this is probably to prevent CBNSat customers attending tomorrow's hearings.

I think this should be plainly disregarded because this genuine CBNSat customer could not be so genuine.

CBNSat 7th Court Hearing today

Today will the 7th Court hearing for CBNSat and I would like to point out that according to the LBO report published in the TV Radio Sri Lanka blog, the case against CBNSat should be dropped.

We were hoping for a positive result from the LBN Case yesterday but since nothing happened in that front and their situation seems to be more complicated than CBNSat, we hope that at least the CBNSat customers will be seeing an end to this fiasco.

We will be posting you updates on this forum also, but since it is blocked we cannot make any posts on the front page and can only post them as comments. So please read the comments carefully and very important news will be posted on the TV Radio Sri Lanka blog too.

This blog will keep you updated on the proceedings in court today and I hope the readers will keep the information flowing in.

Defeneitly,And i feel TRC,CID,SLRC should sit down and iorn out any dicrepancies with the cable operators(If there is any),without unecessarly and unethicaly dragging this, on the interest of few people with vested interest.

The reports i get on the media licence is very encouraging and CBNsat seems to be basically through.

Its need to be seen whether the other guys will come up with another story to drag on(CID,TRC)

In Sri Lanka anything could happen

Anonymous said...

The case will be taken up at 2.00PM at Aluthkade and i will defeneitly be there with around 10 of my fellow subscriber friends and we will try to get someone to update the blog on the proceedings.

Hope all you guys will be there in numbers to protect our rights as subscribers.

Hope the CBNsat lawyers are geard upto face any salvos thrown at them by CID and TRC as the media issue seems to be sorted out.

But it all depends on the proceedings today and we will hope for the best.

This is just crazy!! Where was the Consumer Protection Authority who is supposed to protect the consumer!!! If they say that CBN was doing something illigal Why wern't they stoped?? Wasn't CBN advertising heavily. Didn't they negotiate with the local tv channels before they up linked them. I think we the consumer should gather around and take the CPA to courts. Because they did not do their duty correctly and because of that our right to be informed was taken away from us. I hope a lawyer could correct me if I am wrong

Guys..what is happening?? Tha above post seems to be negetive..is it referancing to today's court hearing??

the case is postponed till 20th of July.CBN has to submit a new application and TRC has the sole authority to approove or reject the application. This is the latest

I hear it has been postponed to monday since the Media Ministry has not approved the broadcast.

Which is correct Monday or July 20th.

Anonymous said...

outragous!!! not unexpected. I think this is a maze of deceptions. and it's never going to end until CBN are put out of business. at least the TRC sloths are busy drafting new licence application forms every week. passes for improved productivity in the government sector

Monday or 20th?

Reports indicate that the case has been postponed for Monday the 3rd of July 2006. The reason for postponement is not yet know and I am sure that my fellow bloggers will continue to update this story as the day progresses.

There are also reports that the date of postponement is 20th July 2006. This date is highly unlikely though. Could someone confirm the correct date.

As you know SHITnet is selling Dish TV connections over here. But Dish TV is giving limited channels to SHITnet. One of my friends got a Dish Tv connection from a friend of his live in India and my friend is watching HBO, Cinemax as well. Bottom line is Hulla is not getting all the channels.

Further, as one of our blogger said, this CBN case will drag until the end of FIFA world cup and that is the truth.

Look what the JVP is saying:
An alleged supporter of the Tigers appointed to the Media Unit for National Security

[28th June 2006 - 14:50 S.L.T]

Mr Lakshman Hulugalla who has been appointed as a Director at the Media Unit for National Security has had allegations on supporting the Tiger organisation, it is learnt.

In a report submitted by the Criminal Investigations Department it is asserted that he has helped the Tigers in exchanging information via his TV station.

A case was filed by the CID in this regard in which Colombo Additional Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya bailed out three people including Mr Hulugalla on Rs 100,000 each.

Observers on national security are of the view that it is a tragedy to appoint such a person to the media unit on national security.

looks like the heat is really on and even the judiciary is under pressure.

closed sessions are usually for rape, divorce or cases where witness protection is required or to protect the children been exposed.

perhaps the public is denied the right to hear the sessions of the court due to increased presence of its customers during such sessions.

perserverance will pay dividends and hope fianlity will be on the cards for a decision on July 03, 2006.

Point Taken Bank Buddy,

Its all about greed for power.

Govt officials are just pawns. just makes a quick but here and there. thats it

Its got to be someone in power or with big connections to get dirty things like this done through officials. My respect for the courts, knowing even the law is powerless in the hands of a corrupt government.

Anonymous said...

What i hear is there is only a minor issue to be sorted out as the officials want a full report on the technology used by CBNsat as it is new to the country, and once they submit this everything should be OK(This would we presume have errupted as the report previously submitted by CBNsat did not have areport on the technology)

After all,its positive and running

Dear Lightning_Struck_Tower,, now now show's that you are frustrated,,i know when you see the dish on your roof and the decorder on top of your tv and nothing working this happens.Relax Tower.Let me give you an idea to make an extra buk cos CBN will never come into life again.

Ok buddy just take a chill pill and a deep breath, everybody seems to be getting worked up on this issue. If ppl in this country cared this much abt the other burning issues in this country it wouldnt be in such a mess.

Cbnsat will be back the only question is when, in the meantime why dont u all read a book for a change cuss whatever Cbnsat provides its just tv and u dont call it the idiot box for nothing, reading some of the posts here I can see why some ppl call it that.

Anonymous said...

Guys please be realistic, emotions and bad language wont take us anywhere.

The logic i like to put forward is since three services are affected, eiter the all three will be back or all will be gone for good. They cant stop only cbn and let the others run.

There real problem is WHEN WILL THIS END.

But i dont belive cbn was perfect since they failed to do business in the Sri Lankan way. They should have had freinds in high places. My point is being "hondha" is one thing but being "kandha" is some thing very different.

We must unite people appearing on all blogs dedicated to this matter.I dont know the actual no of blogs but it must be at least 2(this one and the lbo).

I like to point you to the fact that cbn is a company based on profit and not a charity. So at the moment they realise that this is not going to work they will just announce bankrupt.Remember that when a company is bankrupt nobody can draw money by its directors property, and the costemers of company are last to be taken into account(Remember pramuka).they will never think of giving a refund for 17000+ worth equipment.

So it is up to us to direct cbn in the correct path or to stare at the red light on decoder for rest of our lives. Not to mention the embarresment. It seems only cbn costemers understand the suffring of others. For every oter guy in this seems to be very amusing(go and fry hoppers in your "thachchiya").I even ran in to a sitation where every cbn subscriber was refferd as traitors.

I dont belive that organize a protest by subscribers is a good idea.In the present situation of the country it might be very dangerous for cbn customers. What we really can do is directing cbn on the correct path.they are really lacking suggestions.

Further i like to notify the bloggers who where blindly supportin cbn (if you are not dirctly proffiting from them) that your too much optimistic behaviour has made many fellows to loose faith in this blog. And people who are takeing advantage of the situation and making this a advertising forum for comet or whatever please do your comments somewhere else. This business is no joke for cbn subscribers. And many of them are not that rich to just forget about the money they spent go for another.

Finally i ask evrybody who really want cbn back to be realistic on situation

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

Dear Lightning_Struck_Tower,, now now show's that you are frustrated,

First of all I am not the one who's frustrated :p I've seen you trying hard to scare off CBNsat customers by posting bullcrap (mostly about comet's greatness and how you enjoy it) in this blog for some time now. So far u've failed beyond wildest dreams! Take it easy dude shit happens.

I know when you see the dish on your roof and the decorder on top of your tv and nothing working this happens.Relax Tower. for your information I do not stare at my roof all day long. You must have mistaken me for a parrot LOL (that happens when you have a bird brain)

Let me give you an idea to make an extra buk cos CBN will never come into life again.
haha nice one. I believe you are the magistrate to make such a comment. (And I am the president of sri lanka!)

Well im not used in using the lanauage you have used may be becos my parent's are much better than you's and thought us how to express our feelings in public.Anyway so now I/we know the 25,000 subscribers they are talking of are real 3rd class cheaptronix. Its ok luckily we not in your calibre my freind.
Laughing at others while they are in peril is a characteristic of a bastard. I believe that is a lot more disgusting than using foul language. You have been insulting CBNsat customers continuously, laughing at them and at their misery and boasting about how you enjoy your comet. There is a forum for Comet cable too. Please post about you and your wonderful experiences with comet there. You are a mere parasite in the CBNsat forum. This is why you experience other people replying to your posts with a degree of hostility.

And for top fan's comment, I will mention the reasons why I am supporting CBNsat (this is just my personal opinion so no hard feelings anyone I speak for myself) I am not blindly supporting it.
1. I know this is a political move. Such moves must be countered (or tried) with unity and loyalty.
2. I do not have the money to invest in another sat connection
3. Only other provider in our area is SATnet (fuck em)
4. CBNsat seems to be doing a good job trying to defend themselves and customers
5. They offered top quality service

My message: Do not flee the battle.

* Sri Lanka requires approval for telecommunications licenses
Wednesday, June 28, 2006, 13:07 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 28, Colombo: The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has been directed to seek clearance from the Ministry of Defence before issuing any licenses, given the potential threats to national security.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has also directed the Commission to get clearance from the Ministry of Defence for the importation of telecommunications equipment that may have an impact on national security.

This move has been initiated due to the current security situation in the country, the Sri Lankan government said.

To lightning struck tower

Please understand that i donot want to discourage anyone.I always appriciate the spirit of yours(I have noticed you since you first appeared).

I am out of colombo and any other service is out of question for me.What i can do best for cbn now is to bring faith to fellow subscribers and keep them hanging.

But if we must continue our battle first of all we must know if there is any hope. We cannot throw out the government through a blog.I personally belive the cbnsat will be back but it will be a matter of time. But for the bloggers who are beginning to loose faith i think you must clear up the situation a bit by stateting the real currunt situation(you seems to be aware of that).

I like to mention that after cbn went down this blog was the only reason that i breath and live for.

what can you expect from this country? they promise so many things when they carve for votes. once they are in power the promises become powder, and fly away.
cbn sat did a great job. all they did was gave us life! gave excellent information, entertainment and employment!!
some people cannot give such things, and cant bear to see others giving service too! this whole thing is pure jealousy and a major political drama! frustrates me to the core, and makes me sick!
the political leaders should realise they can make a huge difference by making the right decisions. but too often they are mere puppets dancing to the puppet masters orders. the funny thing here is, the president himself has 16 puppet masters!! hight of disgust!!!

Anonymous said...

I shall update my friends on the cbn sat case....
1- they were shut down on a search warrent by the CID ( had no legal authority to shut down such an organisation)
2- When cbn sat took the matter to courts, they came up saying cbn did not posses a particular rupavahini license. ( Mind you, rupavahini was on cbn network on the request of the president himself)
3- once the judge ordered rupavahini to issue the license, they came up saying, a new license from TRC is needed to carry such operations. ( not to mention, they managed to act super fast to only shut down one other operater namely LBN in one whole week!)
4- If the TRC license was new, then it is obviously a surprise to all operators! you dont shut down a running organisation and ask them to get it! you work it out while its running!! ( the officials at TRC dont have any COMMUNICATIONS among themselves, as the official who appeared in courts didnt know the application by cbn sat was received by another official from TRC, who had signed and acknowledged the receipt of the same- SHAME on them)
5- they postpone the case by a week, for no reason! ( Inconsiderate of all expenditures to cbn sat, the employees, customers, banks and various stake holders)
6- Now the new thing is, cbn sat technology is a threat to national security! ( Coundnt they find a better excuse to make some bucks and take innocent people for a ride?)
7- If we allow this to happen to CBN SAT, tomorrow it will be another gentle giant which will go down. yes, i see cbn sat as a gentle giant. i hope they win this case and prove the world you can break corruption which is rooted widely in our politics and related organisations!
Please show your support to cbn sat by emailing all your friends this blog address.

It is clear that the ltte channel is not uplinked by cbn sat. then why is it still a concern? i know those guys really well, and i know for a fact they are not involved in anything of that sort. they are people who are with a vision to develop this country! if this is going to be the fate of people who are dynamic and talented, guess the country will only be left with total losers!
i have a feeling this is only becoz they are tamils. why shudnt tamils do good business? if they do anything shud it be related to ltte? c'mon guys give a break!

Anonymous said...

i too agree with that. why are they trying to push cbn sat around, just because its run by a tamil? i heard the whole organisation is run by singhalese? if so are those singhalese also ltte?
it is rediculous to bring them down with various reasons and allegations! poor guys are only working on giving us some good set of entertainment/information.
why dont we send a petition to the president. god only knows whether he will even read it!

mahinda will never make history! he will sure be a president in the history of sri lanka, who would only be known as just another person who ruled this country. our grand children and great grand children will never learn about him.
His chinthanaya will be a lost word, coz he is not going to make a difference in this country for its betterment. If they crush cbn sat, a company which was issued a BOI approval, and the equipments were orderly brought into the country with the approvals of TRC. Then all foreign investors will retract from investing here.
we will be utter losers, and be lost in time for sure. All neighbouring countries will have advanced in technology and infrastructure, while we sri lankans will be left far behind. If mahinda needs to make a change that will flourish srilanka, then he has to help cbn sat!

President has better things do to then involving with some stupid cable operator matter. gees these CBN guys are desperate ..

The daily mirror reports today that the media minister has only two issues to be sorted out with CBNsat.

1.Telecast of FASHION TV

2.Telecast of sensitive security issues.

The councal for CBNsat M L M Ameen PC has agreed to abide by the guidelines and the magistrate has requested the councal to meet the media minister and sort out same and report to courts on Monday.

Its a small issue

Heh hehe heh The president has better thing to do...hehehe...hmmm Like WOT ?.....tell me one thing the buggers done ?....

On a different note...no ones blaming the president we are just Pissed the way the country is run...and when president was voted he under took the responsibility to see it run properly. The principle behind the shutdown of CBN is an indicator of how thing are run here in this dharmishta samajaya of ours. CID does what they want..pigs with political clout use influence to fill their pockets..the Judiciary cant make decisions for fear of ofending the politicos... any sensible person can see what happens when the Ass tries to do the job of the donkey....

Dear top fan, yeah dude i agree and i appreciate your continued support for CBNsat.

t oget back on topic,
Sensitive security issues? Fashion TV? LOL!

If people in USA and other developed countries are reading this blog, please do not laugh at us. It is not us; it's the government. H

You can remove fashion TV it is one of the least watched channels in the package. (for me at least)

But which channels broadcast sensitive security issues? PLEASE DONT SAY REALITY TV OR ADVENTURE ONE!

P.S.-Doesnt comet broadcast fashionTV?

Anonymous said...

Fashion TV in the name of Trends is also on DishTV which SatNet sells.

bank_dude said...

Stopping Fashion Tv! Makes me laugh. If that so, minister should ban all hindi movies and some local programmes on local channels first. If we want we can lock the channels from the decoder . Parents have that option.

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

I changed my mind. The government authorities and minister of mass media have helped me realize the terrible truth behind CBNsat. Guys CBNsat has not been helping us at all. It has merely been feeding us with fashion shows and sensitive security issues to us all the time behinds our backs (government saved our lives!). I will prove my point here.

BBC & CNN -Airs news about bomb blasts and LTTE attacks before the government could edit them to make people that read them actually feel happy.

Discovery-Shows animals having sex sometimes. And sometimes shows disturbing topics such as paranormal activity and aliens.

Animal Planet- Total disaster for srilanka. This only shows animals. Sometimes makes fun of animals too (which is bad).

National Geographic- a big NO NO. This shows natural disasters, animals and every piece of scientific crap which may help LTTE survive in bad weather.

MTV- HINDI! No channel in sri lanka air Hindi songs, not even national television. Please ban this too.

Cartoon Network- This is a tiger channel disguised as a cartoon channel. Tigers communicate battle plans via cartoons such as tom and jerry. (notice how tom always gets beaten up, tigers study those)

Pogo- This has gone too far. CID should raid it’s office in India and seal it too (try to avoid being kicked in the ass while trying to do so). Reason- It airs shows such as mr been which resembles the lives of respected sri Lankan politicians. Tigers can study mr bean and simulate suicide attacks on politicians. Just for laughs Gags are always played on citizens by our politicians. This ruins the fun of it too.

Reality TV- A totally new concept to sri lanka. Showing the truth as it is. In sl we do things differently. We edit the truth to please people. So ban this.

Nick- programs such as Bakra resembles the behavior of politicians after a bomb blast on a heroic army commander.

AXN- Shows car crashes, train crashes and violence. These are totally new topics to sri lanka and this channel is evil. (have you even seen a car crash in sl?)

Adventure one- Shows people jumping off cliffs and mountains. Ever wondered why so many people commit suicide in srilanka? Watching tooo much of adventure one is the reason.

ESPN and Star Sports- Worst things that happened to sri lanka. Sports is evil. And tigers may entertain themselves by watching these from a nearby television.

Fashion TV- Ever wondered how they design uniforms for female LTTE cadres? After watching fashions shows on fashion TV.

I must have missed a couple of channels. But this clearly shows what CBNsat was up to.

P.S.- License issue---> LTTE allegations--->License issue--->new license--->unknown technology--->fashion shows and security--->what's next? Too much entertainment?

CBNsat you are too good for sri lanka. But we are with you all the way.

Anonymous said...

As one guy said, its one of the least watched channels in my list too,But the first thng is to get on Air and we will have to sacrifice some things to achieve that.

What CBN can do is to compliment same by adding TEN SPORTS or whatever.

At least there is some light

Lightning_Struck_Tower, I think they may be eying on News channels (CNN and BBC) or even could be targeting Discovery or NGC. My personal opinion is without these there is almost no reason for having a CBNSat connections. May be I have a peanut brain (but definitely larger than our politicos'), How on earth can these channels be an issue to national security (as if we have a secure environment) ?

P.S.: These are my personal thoughts.

Latest news:

TRC to regulate blogging. TRC with the MoM are to draw up plans to controll the unlicensed usage and hosting of blogging.

bank_dude said...

My personal view is most of us bought this connections bcos of Discovery, Animal Planet, NatGeo & Cartoon network. These channels are the main information flows for me. As I said earlier minister should ban hindi craps first from local television. If you observe our younger generation now, are they spoiled due to Fashion Tv. What a crap.

Anonymous said...

Yes ! If anyone is offended by watching Fashion TV they can block it from the reciever or directly requesting from CBNSat you could do.

My uncle who did not want his kids to see it so he blocked the channel. I think they are finding 1001 reasons to delay this process to CBNSat to bankrupt and close down operations.

According to my knowledge (I'm an IT Proffessional) even though their transmission is stopped they will have to pay huge charges for the transponder usage on the satellite and they will have to pay the salaries of the staff etc.

The second thing is the security issues. I think here they want to ban the news coverage on the things that happen in Sri Lanka being reported on BBC & CNN. And the programmes relating to war and military stuff being aired on Discovery, NGC and History Channel.

I really don't know the knowledge about media or the qualifications of the so called media minister !!!

FTV is a free to air channel and any one who has a dish and a receiver can watch it. And even the Discovery, NGC and all the other channels that CBNSat delivers is being beamed to Sri Lanka from India. So anyone could subcribe to it and watch it.

Here what is government trying to promote ? Local business or Indian / Hong Kong business ???

Tigers have a satellite earth station for uplinking and downlinking. So they can send receive anything they want.

Here who are they going to control ?

Beware friends the next victims are the mobile operates and Internet Service providers !

Sri Lanka will be like Afganisthan very soon !!!!!!!!!!!!

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

IF they ban CNN, BBC, Dicovery or NGC, they will have to ban a shitload of local channels too.

CNN--ARTV is re broadcasting CNN.
BBC-Channel one MTV is is re broadcasting BBC.
Discovery- Rupavahini is re broadcasting Dicovery.
NGC- ITN is is re broadcasting National Geographic.

So please ban the two national channels and other two TV stations from braodcasting them if they are threats to security.

Is the government trying to trick us? Ww are more intelligent than they think LOL.

And you know what soon they will regulate us washing our private areas. Can u believe it? Our private areas?

HERE'S AN INTERESTING THOUGHT ABOUT THE FASHION TV THING

Last saturday morning around 11 I was flicking through local channels (and finding nothing to watch). On TNL they were showing an old Chinese movie which showed a girl having a bath in a river and she was dragged out by a guy BUTT NAKED and I mean that literally since they showed her completely naked from the back and her (rather nice) butt was blatantly visible to all.

Guys FTV only shows anything even remotely resembling nudity late in the nights and it can be locked by parents who dont want their kids to see it. But here's a local terrestrial channel showing total nudity on a nice saturday morning when the whole family is watching TV.

No disrespect to TNL since the particular scene in question was not a sexual one but tthe same goes for FTV. If places like ODEL and house of fashion show FTV on their screens I just don't get this.

By the way you CBNSat customers rock I'm one of the few LBN customers who has been blogging but you guys have a dedicated collective hope your service comes online soon cos it doesnt look like ours ever will

Anonymous said...

So by all this we understand that CBNsat uses the same or something close to what all mobile operators and CDMA operators use and if you want to stop CBNsat,The government will have to stop all these mobile operators too.

Its known that the media minister understands the entire issue and known to be a fair guy among a majority of unfair guys.

Hopefully everything will be sorted out when the CBNsat team meets him today or tommorow.

Anonymous said...

Dont worry friend,we will all stand together and get this sorted out,We are with you too untill some justice is done to LBN

Anonymous said...

Ok i could do without FTV(oh! was one of my fav.) i dont hav kids yet anyway.

I want CBN back since i havent watched local crap for the past three weeks only DVD's and xfiles

Hey the minister should ban Xfiles on eye too. IT IS A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY. LTTE MIGHT ADAPT ALIEN STRATEGIES TO ATTACK US

Anonymous said...

Wow! what a fantastic situation this is? Concern over National Security?
If it is due to BBC and CNN, we are in great danger. Because, even a grade 5 student in Sri lanka can access BBC and CNN with their home computers, through internet!!!So we must ban internet in Sri Lanka, ASAP
After Monday's bomb blast, web site of "Media Center for National Security" failed to post a detailed up-date with a photograph taken at the bomb site. That is why people are depending on channels like BBC and CNN.
Get home front corrected first!!!
We un-conditionally support CBN sat, whom has provided good entertainment in Sri Lanka with advance technology, that would have done by a government institution like SLT long years back.

I got a information through a friend that Hulla's ShitNet is still up and running and even activating connections.
Knowing Hulla's style very well this is very much on the cards.
He has done this by misleading CID or who knows together with them.
He has allowed CID to seal empty office space under the name board of SATNET and running the operations downstairs in Star TV office!!!
Is anybody there to check on this and do the needful.

All these shit started by CBN, related to their LTTE links, CBN wanted to investigate other operators licences.but they forgot about comet cable. still operating over to cbn smart customers.

why Free media movment is silent about lbn, is it because they dont support tera's.

YES THEY'LL DRAG THIS UNTIL THE WORLD CUP IS OVER ON JULY 9TH. ANYWAY ENGLAND TOUR IS ALSO FINISHED BY THE 1ST OF JULY. THEY WILL SAY 1001 EXCUSES TO DELAY CBNSAT RESTART THE OPERATIONS AND AS YOU SAID THEY WILL BE IN HUGE TROUBLE EVEN IF THEY GET A CHANCE TO RESTART.

BECAUSE THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THEIR NAME. THIS MONTH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MONTH OF SALES BECAUSE OF THE WORLD CUP.

AND AFTER THIS CASE THE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS WILL ALSO STEP BACK OF BUYING A CONNECTION AS THEY DON'T WANT TO LOSE THEIR MONEY.

SO OVER TO YOU CBN TO COME BACK WITH A THUNDERING MARKETING CAMPAIGN TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF SUBSCRIBERS.

INCREASE THE CHANNELS AND IMPROVE THE SERVICE.

THE REAL CHALLENGE LIES AHEAD !

wrong. Do u think people take SLRC/Daily news seriously? I for one know a lot of friends who are willing to get CBNsat the day it comes back on air. The conpiracy behinds CBNsat closure is well known to the public. People are not as stupid as politicians think they are.

In fact their market position is not challenged. They have partnered with singer. Singer is a household name in SL. I think all this bullshit just increased public atttention to CBNsat in fact the government just went on a marketing campaign for CBNsat. . Anyways who else is there to rival CBNsat in terms of quality and coverage?

i think the person who writes big about comet is actually not a comet person. i think it is a person from satnet, may even be hullu balla's bitch!
coz if that person is taking time to log into the cbn sat forum, then obviously that person must be either-jobless, very very interested in cbn sat or someone who wants to make sure no possitive info is put about cbn.
so my conclusion is this person whoever you are, you better put your name and put the comment if you have a spine!
