Ya.. I saw it...

Do you think this will change anything..? I hope so.. but I have my doubts.

Hope for the best

This shold be just the start. Let's get more action involved. I am suprise to see no action from CBNSat employees. Are they sleping...or do they have enough money to live if CBNSat close down.

ParanoidJackass said...

I was think abt that too..

What's wrong with them... It's their Jobs that's on the rocks. looks like they r not bothered to do or say anything abut it. Are they waiting for "US (CBNSat Subscriber Unit) to do the dirty work...?

According to the LBN blog and the latter posted by LBN to Customers they say that within two weeks they are hoping to get a positive response. But the facts are not very clear and not up to the point.

Anybody has any ideas??

This is great. But if CBN management could arrange a meeting and express their concerns may help a lot.

From the day one CBN is aggrasive & misled the story .this is the resultts. No need to appleed to the President. TRC & MOD directly come under him.

Yes the Employess of CBNsat should get into action and make their voces heard, because the President must be thinking that this is a operation like SATnet(Where they have only around 5 employees),So its time that the voice of around 300 employees are shown.

I think the appeal court has asked LBN to get the same MOD clearance as CBN and the case has been postponed for the 11th of September and there is no substance on the the clarifications of the reps. The hearing is set to commence only when these are in place.

At least the advertisment will open the eyes of the people who are behind this scandal and the real story will go out to the public.

This should continue and the employees of CBNsat should wake up.

it's all fine. in my opinion, this has come too late. CBNSat let the people concerned kindle webs step by step and it's got entangled into unmanagable proportions. they should have directly got in touch with the president when the issue got dragged for more than a month. in sri lanka, it's important to keep in mind that, if you need something, you should go right to the top! i too wonder whether the employees are sleeping (literally, yes they have been sleeping for three months now). i don't think putting up an advertisement on papers is going to do the trick. if they want to keep the business, a meeting and a series of pleading is essential and it's high time that CBNSat think about approaching this in a more sentimental way rather than depending on the juditiary. i wonder whether they are too late though!

lets be positive about this and work towards a objective.

perserverance is the key to success no matter how bad the odds.lets give at least a decent fight cause then we know we did our best and be content with that in mind.

at least CBN took the step from their norms and published in papers as a awareness and a plea..

as already mentioned earlier CBN employees should get their act together and make a gesture on behalf of the company which paid their salaries despite not having any income from their sat business.

The maximum we lose is the investment but gain in morale by putting up a fight against injustice and corruption but CBN employees not only tend to lose their jobs but their integrity to a company that looked after them even through their worst times.Just dont abandon ship like rats do when its sinking, plug up the holes and stop the ship from sinking.

NOW OR NEVER

If CBNsat is doing anything illegle, for sure they would have not come up with such public manner. Great one!! But need lot more action of this nature.

If CBNsat Subscriber unite and Employees of CBNsat come up with similer, seperate insertions, it will put more pressure.

"Rivira" has published the full text of CBNsat Subscriber Unite press release yesterday.

I think we can get more publicity if you adveritise this in private tv channels.. @ about 8:00pm.. then this will surely go into The President ear...

Lightning_Struck_Tower said...

The most powerful force in this drama is not the customers. It's the CBNsat employees. So far we have seen nothing from them. 250 employees are definetely more powerful than 250 customers.

dini said...

you simply cannot play the waiting game with the people who use delaying tactics! delaying tactics are much easier to formulate than it's counter part. we've been seeing this for three months. the juditiary sought solution has, in my opinion, hit a dead end. it's important to have a fresh look at it.

I am wondering why this LBO, Business report in tv channels do not talk about this issue. In the business world the CBNSat cosure is a major problem. But it is not been the same with these programmes. I wonder whether these programmes actualy provide reliable information.

NotBloodyFooled said...

I see soo many people commenting on the news paper advertisement CBN had put in the Sunday papers. The seem elated that it is a step in the right direction. Some people are now calling the employees into action.

First of all I did tell certain people of the management to do this at the very start. Bring it to the notice and knowledge of customers and the general public. BUT they knew better and did nothing but pay the lawyers who were doing noting.. Not a damn thing... For all the money that they have been paid what do they have to show for it?

Secondly as for the employees being mobilized in to action to present their side of the story; Loss of earning, loss of employment; was also brought up at a meeting with a person from the management. I suppose he was too dam white collar to understand the power of the workers. Anyone trying something like this with a Bank, whose employees are members of the Ceylon Bank Employees Union would crushed like a maggot.

But then again I doubt if CBNsat has employees of that caliber. They seem to be more of girls with short skirts and colored hair and boys with rainbow colored shirts donning neckties of various design along with their gelled up hair. I seriously doubt if the girls would be willing to get their well manicured nails dirty lest they wont be able to send "SMS" on the tiny little key pad of their tiny little mobile phones and the boys lest they get the well set hair all messy.

The best of luck to CBN. They need all the luck there is ; what with the lazy inactive unimaginative people associated with them and this includes all from the management to the employees including the lawyers

Is this forum being used to bash CBNsat or support it and try to get back it's service.

I know the CBNsat employees and some of them are in their first jobs. These guys are decent and not like the headless fools that our universities make. Most of them are very young but there are the mature ones too.

Yes the employees are silent but lets give them time and they will also be out there. It is just a matter of time.

Lets hope our president reads the newspapers. Can anyone tell me whether CBNsat has sent him the letter officially asking him to intervene.

STOP BASHING CBNSAT AND LETS FIND WAYS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

CBN BASHING IS NOT GOING TO HELP US.

NotBloodyFooled said...

READ DUDE AND UNDERSTAND....IF YOU ARE UNABLE GET SOMEONE TO HELP YOU....

WITH YOUR RESPONCE IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO SEE THAT YOU AND THE EMPLOYEES AT cbnSAT ARE OF ONE FEATHER.....

I too wish to see a resolution to this nasty issue settled in favour of CBNsat...

I feel that the members of this forum are doing much more than CBNsat employees or some people of the management. I have no clue what the lawers to CBNsat are doing.. so unable to comment.

Members of the CBNsat subscribers unit sent their letter to the papers befor CBNsat did; ofcourse it was not a paid advertisment for obvious reasons.... I would not be surprised if they got the idea from CBNsat unite....

Alf said...

I agree with NotBloodyFooled. What has the Management and the employees have done till now. They kept too much hope on the Lawyers and Courts. But after three months where do we stand??

Only Customer unite have done something and made this issue public. If you look back one could clearly see the untill SLRC report came out CBNSat was also not sure whether they were guilty or not. After that report only CBNSat has come out to public.

I am not trying to put CBNSat down..but to wake them up from their slumber. They should have been on air by now if they acted properly.

I don't know how the so called lads and lasses will find money to do their hair and nails after CBNSat close down!!

So what's now?? Is CBNSat waiting for his Excellency to call them and say that he saw the nice ad in the paper??

Wake up!! Customers are with you. Lets work together and get our CBNSat on air soon.

NotBloodyFooled said...

Well said Alf.... Wake up CBNsat.... Time for lateral thinking....AND CBNsat management start earning your salaries....

Alf said...

One more idea.

Can we send the PDF ad to all the email adresses of government institutions. Can we also fax the english/Sinhala ad to all the fax numbers. Specially TRC,SLRC, BOI, President's office ..etc.

bank_dude said...

As Alf said president won't call CBN and say that he saw the advertisement. Atleast management should try to fix an appoinment with HE and discuss this. I'm sure he will consider about employess because he also worked with unions. We all must agree that after the initial press conference CBN was not in the surface. Now it's right time to organize a press conference and raise their voice.

Alf said...

Can we get the Private Bus owners association to stike on behalf of CBNSat employees!!

LOL

Guys just try to understand,When the top guy is trying to destroy CBNsat with baseless aligations they went for the only possible recourse,The legal system in this country and what else do you expect them to do and who is the lawyer you are reccomending they should handover the case too,With the executive presidancy and he directly involved what else could you do?

Cable Guy said...

I remember someone mentioned at the beginning of this fiasco that about 60% of the major tourist hotels in the Colombo are affected by this issue, as CBN was their primary provider of satellite links.
Although they must have switch to some other operator by now, is there any chance of getting them involved in our push forward.
Having some high rollers like that will give us good momentum.

Any of you have contacts?

Alf said...

Well..if President does not show any positive response, then it's better for CBNSat to pack their bags and leave.

matrix said...

I agree “ALF”

What ever the progress happen up to now was because of the “CBNsat Subscribers” Unit, not because of their lawyers.

Any way some people mention (in this blog) highly, that CBN is using THE MOST BEST lawyers in Sri Lanka & they will handle the mater professionally. But now all of us know the skill level of these BEST lawyers.

Get-together we should work as a team..

Cable Guy said...

If government doesn’t want CBN to operate, and CBN doesn’t want to get back on track, what can we do?

Sue them?

Over 17K?, on this judicial system?

I’d rather go fly a kite.

TERRY said...

I agree but the situation is such that even the worlds best lawyers cant do anything when the the President of the country orders a MOD clearance and the President is not subject to any litigation.

The thing is good or bad,Those are the powers of the executive presidancy and he has already made a directive.

We and everbody knows its wrong and the intentions are to shut down CBNsat.

Can anyone tell when the CJ or The Supreme Court cant give a directive to restart transmission, what is the course of action we have against this unfair politics.

TERRY said...

YOU ARE ON THE DOT CABLEGUY,What course of action do we have,When the so called big wig lawyers cant get something done legaly,Is it worth talking about justice being done from the same person who wants to see the back of something.

matrix said...

Good idea “Cable Guy”

Gathering the business community, definitely we should be able to make an impact. But it is also so strange that none of the privet business people at least try to talk behalf of CBNsat. They also should know that there will be a day like this for them in future if they support the corrupted GOV. The way their making a voice about peace they should raise a voice to protect their community as well. Because as we know now, this business has started by following the correct protocol.

Alf said...

Poor We can only expose the Corrupted and ensure that at next election these goons does not come to power.

For 17K, I think we should forget about it. Wish we were atleast able to use the Dish & LNB to get another connection..but i think it's impossible. I am planning to keep the decorder as a souvinir.

Do you think that president is unaware of this?.His brother is the Secretary of the defence ministry and as i said earlier unless you bring some pressure from India nothing will happen. If the CBN SAT mgt are Indian nationals they can easily ask them to intervene .They can ask from BOI and if they cant give a satisfactory answer can send a warning to Sri Lankan government asking indians not to invest in Sri Lanka .In the meantime must send this issu to all the chambers in the world (at least to chambers whose members are potential investers)

If any one from the CBNsat management does visit here, a point they need to make to the government is that....

There never was an instance where any Sri Lankan Government was or is credited with bringing new technology in to the country. It has always been the private sector companies that have made in roads with such ventures that has benefited the country as a whole. I provide two examples to justify my claim...

1. The first TV broadcaster was a private channel..ITN.. Which was taken over later by the government.. It was much later that the Rupavalini corp came in to being. For this to the country was lacking in technology that Japan was kind enough to make us the donation of knowledge and resources.

After the laps of years I do not know how many....there has been no expansion or development in this field where the government TV channels are concerned, just one more channel in the form of channel Eye...when there are 5 private channels that have come up in the last 10 years or so.

2. The Sri Lanka telecom was a white elephant dieing a slow death natural or induced I do not know. If one is old enough one would remember the time we had to wait months if not years to get a telephone connection. No Loops...was a common excuse. That was until new technology was brought in with private entrepreneur . We now even have CDMA telephones from SLT...not to mention ADSL. They even go as far as sponsor major sport events (proof they now do make profits).

This proves the obvious....In Sri Lanka Innovation, technological advancement has been driven by the private sector; advancements that have benefited the entire nation as a whole.

I write here and not make my points to CBNsat directly because I have tried before and felt it was like pouring water on the back of a duck. And soooo if any one wants to communicate this to the management of CBNsat please be my guest.

Cheers
