What would you like to see

Taking a break from our regular posts about the CBNSat court case we have noticed that many of you are interested to know, what CBNSat is going to give for it's customers who waited patiently for these few months.

We are getting reports that CBNSat will relaunch with the Zee Package and Disney Channel (this is not confirmed) and will later be adding the Star Package and Ten Sports. Earlier we have had numerous requests from people who are waiting for CBNSat to add God Tv to their line up in order to purchase connections.

It is a well known fact that God TV and other religious channels are available on all the other Cable TV companies in Sri Lanks except on CBNSat and Comet Cable. We have reliable reports that Comet Cable does not include religious channels due to limited channel capacity.

So from our point of view we think CBNSat should include God TV and the other religious channels should be available on CBNSat since as a reader has mentioned CBNSat can keep the channel scrambled and only unscramble it for the people who want to view it. This will keep it from offending anyone and also the CBNSat competitor Satnet's Dish TV also has God TV on their lineup.

So we would like to know what you think regarding this subject?

The Magisterial Court hearing on CBNSat will be held tomorrow (15th) and does anyone know whether CBNSat has already met with the TRC and Media Ministry and if so, what was the outcome of the meeting? CBNSat is of course very confident of being on air on 23rd Aug 2006 or before that.

I don’t think it’s a good idea for CBN to broadcast religious channels. CBN obviously caters to subscribers who are in different races and religions and I trust them not to be stupid enough to look biased. The last thing CBN needs to do is piss off their customers and put fuel to the fire by advocating a channel that caters to Christians or any other religion for that matter. What will subscribers of other religions think? No one needs to be biased and no one needs to go the extra mile to have a specific channel ON or Scrambled. It’s obviously a personal choice to anyone who wishes to watch it.

I don’t expect CBN to launch with a bunch of new channels after all they’ve been through. Whoever really missed CBN during this time will expect them to be back on just the way it was. They’re bruised and battered and now EVERYONE WANTS SOMETHING from them.

Can we just support them instead of being greedy shits and asking for more?
They will give us good stuff… in time.

YES ! ALISON, PRMO AND LST IS CORRECT ! CBN SHOULD NOT TRY TO CREATE CONTOVERSIES ON THEIR OWN NOW ! PLAYING SAFE IS THE BEST ! EVENTHOUGH SRI LANKA IS A MULTI RELIGIOUS COUNTRY THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE (75%) ARE BUDDHISTS. SO IF CBNSAT IS TO TRANSMIT RELIGIOUS CHANNELS THEY SHOULD BROADCAST CHANNELS IN 4 DIFFERENT MAIN RELIGIOUS FAITHS. OTHERWISE IT WILL CREATE ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS FOR CBN.

AND GOD TV IS A FREE TO AIR CHANNEL AVAILABLE IN PAS 10 SATELLITE.

SO IF ANYONE IS REALLY INTERESTED IN WATCHING GOD TV THEY COULD DO IT VERY CHEAPLY BY BUYING A FTA RECEIVER AND WATCH IT "FREE" WITHOUT EVEN PAYING A CENT TO ANYONE.

I THINK CBNSAT SHOULD STICK TO THEIR IDENTITY AS A ENTERTAINMENT AND INFOTAINMENT PROVIDER.

HOPE THE MAJORITY WILL AGREE WITH ME !

Hey guys I think this is bullshit. We don't have even the Green Light in our decoder...
But we are arguing over some channels, I don't have anything against GODTv, but
guys just think about this ,
I don't think TRC or Media Ministry has issued any licence to CBN yet....
what will happen if they ask the court to stop CBN from transmitting because they are going to launch some religious
channels and convert people( Mind you they have a new ACT against this forceful religious conversions issue)
court will definitely postpone the case and ask them to examine the issue, do you think CJ will have any other option than asking
them to examine on 23rd in Supreme Court.. then JVP JHU and others will join the party and it will take another say 2 months to clear the mess...
You all are saying that LBN has GODTv....... but LBN and everybody else had FTV . only CBN was charged for broadcasting FTV.
Guys keep this in Mind everybody is behind CBN they will do anything to Shut CBN..
So BLOG ADMIN pls drop this post from front page... it will only help our enemies.....

I really don’t know about the content shown in GODTV. But it surely sounds like trouble. Like me many Sri Lakans would not know the content of this channel. People fear the unknown. The religious theme makes it more suspicious. CBNsat had it’s share of troubles in recently and it not even over yet. With all the respect to my Christian friends, for god’s sake, no GOD TV on CBNsat.

Lisura! Whilst appreciating your efforts to have CBNSat back on air.

YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO TELL US WHAT WE CAN WATCH ON TV OR WHAT WE CAN ASK FROM CBNSat.

CBNSat can transmit Muslim Channels, Hinud Channels, etc. What are the people to do if there is no Buddhist Channel around.

I am not telling CBNSat to show only God TV. I said that they can show all the other religion channels also. What is your point that the majority 75% are Buddhists. So! Let it be, do we always have to abide by what the buddhists say? If they are not comfortable with this let them have it blocked out. Yes God TV is available FTA on Pas 10 but you need to buy a dish and a decoder to view it and it come to about Rs 20,000/= to purchase it.

People in Sri Lanka are not rich enough to buy both a connection for Rs 17,000/= and another for Rs 20,000/=.

CBNSat has a Gold Mine of people who are willing to purchase CBNSat connections when they get God TV because they want regular entertainment plus the religious channel.

SO CBNSat must get God TV but this is not required immediately. Just do it after the things start cooling down.

DO NOT ALWAYS LOOK UPON PEOPLE WITH SUSPICION SINCE people with attitude like that only caused this problem in the first place.

I Hear that no meeting took place and there is no necessacity for same as the TRC and the Media Ministry have to do the needful and confirm to courts,(The supreme court was in the view that this could be sorted out at the magistrates court and has even instructed the lawyers of CBN to produce the Supreme court order to the magistrate on 15.08.2006),Further the SLRC(For the Media Ministry) has submitted the report clearing CBNsat. So first will have to wait till tommorow for a postive outcome.

To make it Prime CBNsat needs only a few more channels,TEN SPORTS,STAR(WORLD & MOVIES)are top of the list.

Yes,They already have ZEE PAKAGE signed up and DISNEY almost before the baseless closure,So it is a fact that these will be available immediatly or within a couple of days of the recommencement of the transmission.

I dont wont to comment on the GOD TV channel anymore and only hope that CBNsat doesnt fall into unesessary trouble and controversy.

Guys,Can CBNSat gets access to ESPN for US or Fox Sports in AU? Can they add channels like US NBC ,CBS ? If not how can a normal user gets access to these if he willing to pay any amount for that? e.g Special Satellite Receiver?

ROMESH said...

Dude,No one is stopping anyone of requesting the channels you want to see,The only problem is, it might be a concern to CBNsat after going through this nightmare and they defeneitly will have to and will be thinking twice, and if there is no issue with them and if there are numerous requests as you say,It will be on their platform and others i hope wont be botherd.

Further you dont have to pay 20000 to purchase FTA equipment,It is freely available for less than 10000.

"Dear Dude and others who want GOD TV"

I don't want to comment on the GOD TV channel anymore and our only hope is that CBNSat doesn't fall into unesessary trouble and controversy in future.

That's it !

I agree with Romesh. To make it prime CBNSat needs only Star World, Star Movies and Ten Sports.

It is nice to hear that CBNSat has already signed up with Zee and Disney. I got info that they have already negotiated with Sun TV too. Not sure of the correctness though.

I think we should not hold the admin of the blog responsible for the God TV discussion since they were only highlighting the discussions that had taken place and giving their view.

Also appreciate Lisura's efforts to get CBNSat back on air once again.

I personnaly feel God TV should be on CBNSat ALONG WITH OTHER RELIGIOUS CHANNELS, after all these things cool down. Before that please give us Ten Sports, Star World. My opinion.

Thanks for the hearty discussion after all we are all friends still right.

Unfortunately Romesh since God TV operates on C-Band the antenna is Rs 20,000/=. You must be referring to the FTA Dish TV broadcast that can be viewed on Ku-Bandfor Rs 10,000/=. The problem is I do not trust the Dish Tv.

CASSIE said...

I am aware that CBN had GOD TV in there intial plans before the closure and Now i hear that they are having second thoughts on having it,For the simple reason of CONTROVERSY.

CASSIE said...

Great stuff Dude, and will all work as a team and get the channels we wont and for all the guys who want GOD TV we will ask CBN to get it some time in future and(I hear they are still discussing and if you guys are lucky it may be on air very soon with the commencement of transmission)

Yes Dude you are correct on the SUN TV and there had been numerous request for same they had been in discussion and there is a possibility that SUN TV may be encrypted in future(As done with BBC).They will defeneitly be discussing same once this problem is sorted out (Since Sirasa is also telecasting some programmes of SUN TV,They may be having objections)

Thats the way DUDE,great to see your response

i don't understand why we have to go into a cock fight before the eggs are even hatched. let's keep our eye on the ball. first thing's first. let CBNSat come back and then we should argue about new channels and bla bla bla...

Lisura said...

Dear Dude !

C-Band Dish (6feet) is only Rs. 6500/=
C-band Receiver is Rs. 5500/=

These prices are from Pettah dealers. There may be cheaper places than this definitely.

So for less than Rs. 12,000 you can get a C-band FTA system which not only have GOD TV but about 75+ FTA channels.

FOR YOUR INFO PLEASE !

I do certainly agree with Lisura. Having fought a lone battle to mobilize people to form 'Cbn customer unite' (of course with very few bloggers who were there to support him) his concerns are quite acceptable. What he is trying to explain is when CBNsat is about to begin its transmission, we should not allow GODtv or any such controversy. First we should get CBNsat online. At the same time I do not believe what Dude say that there are number of customers who are waiting till GOD TV is on-line to get connections. If there were, why they have waited so long, as said channel is FTV, IF ANYONE IS REALLY INTERESTED IN WATCHING GOD TV THEY COULD DO IT VERY CHEAPLY BY BUYING A FTA RECEIVER AND WATCH IT "FREE" WITHOUT EVEN PAYING A CENT TO ANYONE.

DEAR FRIENDS,

YES ! WE ALL ARE FRIENDS OF THE CBNSAT SUBSCRIBER FAMILY ! WE MAY NEED DIFFERENT CONTENT BUT OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE AT THIS TIME SHOULD BE GETTING CBN BACK ON AIR AT LEAST WITH THE CHANNELS THEY HAD BEFORE. LATER ON THEY WILL ADD MORE CHANNELS DEPENDING ON THE SUBSCRIBERS REQUEST.

Dude said...

Yo Man Rob!

Rob let me explain. The people whom I am talking about are the Christians in this country who want regular high quality cable channels plus the God TV channel. Yes I know that they can purchase the FTA receivers but then you need to buy both the CBNSat Connection to watch the cable tv and the FTA receiver for God TV.

Frankly I have no problem that you do not believe me but the truth is that there are many who are waiting for God TV to make its appearance on CBNSat for them to purchase the connection. However if the regular cable based people get to them first then they will purchase it from them , but then there are those that understand the quality of CBNSat transmissions who even though they have access to regular cable tv are waiting for CBNSat to get God TV.

These are people who do not only watch God TV but want to watch the other channels too.

I hope you understand what I mean.

I agree fully with Lisura that the FIRST PRIORITY is to get CBNSat on line and then I believe that they will start adding the channels that we want.

By no means did I mean to hurt anyone.

By the way how does it look for tomorrow at the courts

Lets "PRAY" that CBN comes back soon

We had nothing to watch, CBN came along and gave something, That was taken away from us, We all voiced our feelings.

Lets get back CBN first, the channels they had were great, for people who had basically nothing.

bank_dude said...

Guys our first priority is bring CBN back on air. Without that it's no point of talking this matter. Let us focus on tomorrow's hearing. Any news related to licensing issue?

godaya said...

I did not see the green light either(today).
Hope the two Rupavahini channels get on board again-when CBN is relaunched.(not because their content is that great- but merely for the purpose of completeness in the channel lineup)its especially important for us who live in the outstations where the signal quality is not that great when it comes to local channels tbroadcast over UHV&VHF.

Does the star package contain good sitcoms like Friends etc? what are the comedy channels available? if a good comedy channel is added that would complete the variety of channels available in CBNSat.

Hope things go off well tommorrow. but my guess is that we will have to wait till the 23rd to see any progress- well after all this is Sri Lanka.
